Anything detrimental to using snow mode all the time instead of all purpose? I like the pedal responses better. Seems smoother to drive. I’m not using the brake pedal anymore than I would in all purpose mode so no additional brake wear. Anything else I should be concerned about? Figure it may be nicer to the hardware because it’s less aggressive. Maybe help avoid pops/clicks/tics everyone talks about.

Glad it's not just in my head I've read this a few times now. All purpose mode used to be great, especially when driving for comfort and with more passengers on board until Rivian changed the "Ride" settings for All purpose. This was around the time when Snow mode was released and All purpose mode is terrible now... Rivian please restore All purpose back to what it was

The response I got was from my guide and it was basically a “I don’t know”. The guide stated nothing in manually states any issues or concerns but the guide thought MAYBE there could be some traction control differences but just a guess. So a big thanks to them for being worthless but in par with my overall guide experience thus far (along with some straight up lying from the guide about build date).

the question was originallydirected at CS but guide responded

Sorry, what exactly is your complaint regarding AP mode?

I share the same concern and the fundamental issue with AP mode is the regen remains aggressive even set to standard, so I have to keep my foot on the accelerator not for the brake light to come on. I think the snow mode allows you to get a more smooth coasting response when driving on the highway, so as a circumvention if the truck is set to snow mode, I assume you do not have to modulate the pedal to avoid unexpected regen braking....

We have been driving Opal mostly in the AP Mode. This was recommended to us by the Rivian tech who handled Opal's delivery at the Factory two months ago. Except for a little experimentation, this is what we have done. We operate in the AP Mode at standard ride height, soft ride, high brake regen, and stability on.

We have found these setting satisfactory and we love the way Opal rides and handles. We may try the Snow Mode just to she the way she drives.

I heard that teslas have a chill mode and snow mode might be more like that. I understand why people would want that. I myself find the throttle mapping a little strange in AP and that’s both on the regen side and the acceleration side. It’s hard to put a finger on it but it seems to me it’s almost too linear around the transition between regen and acceleration and then very nonlinear deeper into the throttle.

but to the OPs question, I don’t see why you couldn’t use snow mode all the time. The only drawback is perhaps safety related. You don’t have as much instant deceleration when lifting your foot up so you have to anticipate your slowing more.

I think you’re right about it being to linear and that’s the reason I don’t like it. I almost feel like it’s more of a safety issue to have such heavy deceleration sometimes. Probably just me needing to get use to an EV but I had someone step out for behind a car yesterday, nowhere near me hitting them or needing to slam on my brakes to avoid them but shocked me enough that I let off the accelerator which is like slamming on the brakes. Definitely scared everyone in the car and the person behind me unnecessarily. Wonder if there is any data on EVs being rear ended more? Also pulling into tight parking spot and needing to inch forward requires more thoughtful feathering of the accelerator than necessary. Again probably just me getting use to EV. But snow mode is more comfortable at this point. As long as it’s just peddle mapping than I think I may stick with it for now.

It feels harsh when you aren't expecting it, but it's definitely no-where near the same deceleration you get from mashing the brake pedal. It's a lot closer to normal deceleration for a changing traffic light.

That’s probably more accurate, but I still caught everyone off guard unnecessarily. Part of the adjustment of driving an EV.

Lets use your vehicle for a science experiment. If nothing breaks then we all can do it ?

I don't see the point of driving an 800hp truck in a mode that cuts that HP in half
