Thanks, I think we're both saying the same thing.

For reference, on the JL wrangler forum, here is what it looks like when a group of people get together and discuss a problem many people are experiencing. No one accused the OP of whining or bitching about first world problems. No one suggested they get therapy to deal with their problems.

I read the first and last pages of that thread. It made me grateful for the maturity I see here.

Best to all!

You are correct that the forum Administrators don't prohibit whining. But this is a community. In a community, the members of the community also police behavior. That is how ALL communities work. Just because the Admin allows, it doesn't mean the community will accept it.

If you don't like the rules set by the community, you are free to leave. Or free to try to change the culture of the community.

Is this community perfect? Of course not. There are things I don't like about it.

For example, I know some people have set my user ID to "Ignore" because they don't like my political persuasion. I think that is close minded and destructive. But that is the way this community is. It has people who are so radical in their opinions they are offended by mine.

But I do like the pushback on whining and complaining. And I really, really like how most people here try to help those who need help. When they ask for help, that is. So I think overall it is a very positive social media community.

One day you might agree.
I don't agree or disagree.

I've been a member of various online automotive owners forums for a long time. There are always fanboi's that are so obsessed with a product that they don't like any kind of negativity. These tend to be a loud minority where you see a massive message count as if they're on this forum every day.

As a community we shouldn't allow these people to set the rules just because "someone is wrong on the internet" has become their life's purpose.

Heck I think I sort of was one of them as I was on the Tesla Motors Club forum EVERYDAY. Some of it was productive but 95% of it was just an utter complete waste of my time.

To keep any community healthy we need to promote new blood. So I think I mostly try to be welcoming of new blood unless they go on and on about car play of course. There are certain things you just should not do on a Rivian Forum. Haha

In terms of Rivian watching this forum , I based my statement on this -> https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/threads/🐀.51960/

Given, I do not have direct information that they watch this forum. But from a corporate intelligence gathering perspective, I can't imagine any publicly traded company not paying close attention to their reputation. On the Jeep JL/JT forums of which I participate, Stellantis is actively involved and responds to threads often.
Got it, thanks for explaining. Keep in mind that just because that "take down" notice was issued doesn't necessarily mean there's anyone from Rivian reading the various comments and are interested in the post or acting on it. I suspect that either a rank and file employee reported the copyrighted material, or perhaps it was linked to on Reddit that brought them here, or it was a copyright investigator that stumbled upon it.

I've been down the copyright investigator path myself, having received five legal "Cease and Desist" orders at one of my businesses for alleged copyright infringement. All of the instances were from legal firms/divisions who have staff searching the web for possible infringements. In our case, it was all artwork that mimicked copyrighted likenesses, they claimed it was "too close to actual". We amicably resolved one challenge with a few edits, but three of these were HUUUUGE estates of well-known artists with resources that could bury my company in litigation. Not worth fighting it.

New blood is good but I don't want this community to become Reddit.

If we get fewer posts from people just bashing and complaining, that means it is a more positive community experience. For me, anyway.

If it becomes like Reddit, I will quit participating and the new whiners can have it all to themselves.

Having purchased our new R1S on April 25 of last year, I spent a fair bit of time on this forum reading up and learning what to expect. My wife and I do almost all of our purchase research on forums, as we feel most of the online auto "publications" (if you could still call them that) are heavily swayed by forces outside real world experiences (like paid/comp'ed influencers, etc..)

This forum is different than most. There is a cadre here of people who have taken it on as their personal mission to defend against any and all negative sentiment about Rivian and their products.

Are they paid influencers? I don't know.
Are they Rivian shareholders? Perhaps.
Have their methods been effective at silencing dissent? Absolutely.

My wife and I fall into the category of folks who've had significant issues with our R1S. We've also experienced the lesser-grade software nits others mention. Besides an initial post on the repeated "Christmas tree" of warning lights that required an SC visit, I've kept silent.

I know better than to say anything here that might be construed as complaining. I don't wish to be called a troll. I don't want to be accused of whining. I don't need to be reminded that every other car out there requires things like weekly reboots and lowered expectations, and that I should just learn to live with it.

To be clear, we love our R1S. Nothing compares to it.
But, hear me out on this, Rivian pays close attention to this forum.
We know this.

Why would we not share the cold hard truth with them, in arguably the only platform we have?
I completed the 60 minute long survey I received from Wassym.
I was brutally honest.

I desperately want Rivian to survive. I am looking forward to seeing the R2/R3 and so on rolling down the road. I believe in the "never waste a good catastrophe" mantra, and I feel Rivian could benefit from our honest feedback.

To the group of people on here who blast every negative opinion as whining or troll garbage, I am talking to you. I challenge you to listen to "Hey You" by Pink Floyd.

Together we stand, divided we fall.

*I fully expect to be called a few things because of this post. Looking forward to the discussion...*
My only reply to you is right on! I agree with you 100%. I do wish Rivian was a little more communicative when issues are raised to try and separate real issues vs operator error as some of what is reported is self inflicted.

I don't even bother reading one star reviews. 5 star reviews are almost as worthless. 2-4 star reviews are where a lot of the honest info comes from since there is clearly some thought to balance and reflect on both good and bad. Most people don't write 2-4 star posts though.
I do scan the 1-stars, for commonly mentioned items, like, "hey, all these 1-stars are complaining about the same exact thing." Even when the average is 4.6 stars, if all 20 1-stars complain of a specific defect or that it fell apart after 1 month and they won't replace or respond, or that it didn't ship with needed hardware, etc., then I know they have QC issues and I'll pass.

Come now, do you really not see the difference between the jeep thread and the one here you also linked? In the jeep thread they are discussing a dangerous and defective high voltage battery. The one you linked on this forum is not at all related to safety or drivability of the car. The Rivian complaints he had were all convenience features like phone as a key and kneel mode(which was user error lol).
