I watched a video that talked about some problems with the R1T. The video said that a lot of dirt/gravel gets dumped into an area underneath the bed. Can those who use their truck for hauling dirt/gravel confirm or deny this? It also said that water gets trapped inside of the door. Are these common problems?

There have been a few people who have trouble with water getting trapped in their doors, but to my knowledge it's not a widespread issue and as I understand it, the doors are designed to drain out on their own but for some reason it doesn't happen for some folks. The service center ends up doing it for them.

The area underneath the "flap" that bridges the gap between the bed and tailgate (shown in pic) can get debris trapped in there sometimes, but it's not too much trouble IMO to clear it out. When driving on dusty roads you will also find dust under the compressor door and other nooks and crannies as well.

Stuff can get down there. Best to use a tarp if you're concerned about it.

I haven’t found this to be an issue. Yes, debris can get in there but I’ve taken to using a tarp for yard waste (which has all sorts of other benefits) and that prevents a lot of mess.

I had a service ticket in early on to check into door draining as my drivers door filled up a bit while sitting at the airport. Hasn’t happened since.

This is the best advice if your hauling dirt, mulch, gravel, etc.

The whole vehicle was designed from the start around outdoor lifestyle/activity, along with premium creature comforts one would expect with the premium price point. It was not designed from the start as a dirt/rock hauling work truck, then with luxury bits added to be a quasi luxury car—like other trucks on the market. The tail gate was designed with the goose-neck hinge so the bed can be extended to haul long things like motorcycles or full sheets of plywood/drywall (i.e. occasional home improvement duty). Because of the hinge design, there are spaces where small debris can fall into and collect. If you're going to use it like that, you need to line the bed with a barrier so things don't fall through.

The R1 can ford water 43.1" deep. Inside the doors there are one-way drain valves. This valves can clog with dirt overtime and are sometimes incorrectly installed at the factory. This is why some people find water collecting in their doors. This is not difficult to correct.

The bigger problem I saw with the tailgate collecting stuff/trash/debris is that it has no where to really go. Underneath the hinge point is the rear undertray. I get its for aerodynamics, but that creates other issues, all that "stuff" collecting up, with no where to go.

I watched a video on youtube a while back, and the VOP did complain about it, and noted that with the tailgate down, you can lift the middle gate, and beat/hose/wash out the debris that collects... To a point. The rear undertray is rather large. Larger items wont simply "wash away".

FWIW I've never had an issue with water in my doors. My R1T also has the powered tonneau and I've never had an issue with dust. I've even had to open my tonneau when it's covered in dust and it opens and closes just fine.

Water in the doors. Yes. I have this issue ONLY when parked on a slight/moderate decline (nose down, bed up). I park at my garage door to charge and this is the case. The water does drain on a flat (level) surface.

Never had water in my doors.
My tailgate fills with water if left open in the rain but it pours out when you shut it again.

I can't imagine putting [messy stuff like mulch or gravel] in my bed without a tarp. Same has been true for all the previous pickups I've owned. It's just so much easier to clean, plus you need a tarp to cover the load to be legal anyway so just use a bigger tarp to make a burrito.
There is a bit of stuff that's found it's way around the edge of the spare compartment but it doesn't bother me and doesn't get past the gasket and into the spare compartment.
