No doubt someone on this site will tell me this was user error... I KNOWWWW.... That said, I thought it might be good for everyone to at least be aware of this possibility.

I was getting ready to take my vehicle in for service. As I got in the car I saw that the dash and the infotainment screen was a dusty from a recent camping trip. So, I went and got a microfiber cloth, set my phone down on the driver seat, and wiped down the two surfaces. I closed the door to the car so I could put the dirty cloth in the garage hamper and when I turned back to the car I realized that the vehicle was completely locked with my phone and a key card inside!

Now, this happened at home, so it was only a minor annoyance. But if this had happened at the office, or a carwash or some other random place, I would have been locked out without my phone to call for assistance. I reported it to Service, just so they'd be aware. They reviewed the logs and indeed I had hit the lock button on the screen while the phone was in the vehicle and then closed my door.

SOOO.. the new release comes with a screen cleaning setting. I for one am going to get into the habit of using it religiously to avoid having this happen in a less convenient place.

OK... all yours... tell me how it is user error....so I can care what you think, lol....

The locks are pretty loud and hard to ignore in both of my vehicles. All I'll bother to say, anything more is a waste of both our times.

THIS is why the smartwatch key would be so awesome. (Though, tbh, the backup card key is fine.) Serious question: does no one do a hide-a-key anymore? Duct tape and ziplock with a card key tucked underneath / behind the bumper / etc should work wonders for those who do not carry a wallet.

I wish Rivian supported the Apple Watch (and Android/Garmin variants) as a PaaK equivalent. I locked myself out of my Tesla once doing something similar but I had my watch on and could unlock my car with my watch and was back in business.

I think the watch key is on the development map. At least it was 6 or so months ago.

We really need a manual entry option in case of full power loss. It would also help in cases like the dusting error. One assumes the key is in your pocket. Maybe it’s force of habit from many years of driving, but I want a reliable backup in case the high tech lets me down. Yes: I’m aware Rivian’s fob is a software device dependent on connectivity.

Other OEMs seem to have solved this long ago. Case in point from another vehicle of mine.
