I am due to replace my 21" road tires. Any comments on Michelins vs Perellis? Didn't seem to get that great of wear on the Perellis.

I switched to Michelins in April. They are quieter (it just makes the motors seem louder but that is because less road noise).
I think a little less efficient but too early to tell.
no regrets.

Man, the one thing that's really bugged me since dipping my toe into this new community is discussing "wheels" without regard to using the correct terms and appropriate measurements.

They're not 21" tires. They're 34" (in my case) tires. They're 21" rims. At the very least they're a 21" wheel option.

Thank you for attending my TED Talk.

Of the 2 choices, I'd pick the Michelin tires. If nothing else, they are less expensive. I think they are a better tire too.

I agree the clearer phrase would be “tires for 21” wheels” but I’m now wondering what is the diameter of the donut hole in tires for 21” wheels?

Also, I’m probably going to go with the Michelins.

26,600 and they are not quite to the wear bars but close enough that it is not worth swapping them with my 20's for few thousand more miles.

21" Michelin Defenders were $100 cheaper and rated way better than OEM Pirelli's. Not even comparable without the Michelin 70K warranty, so now it's not even worth thinking about.

I've got 300K+ miles on Defenders on 3 other vehicles, so when 21" size for Rivian came out it was a no brainer.

Because someone will ask, have gotten ~65-75K on each set, with last one on wife's GX460 they prorated from the 65K and gave me $ off the new set ($ off each tire). Discount tire was used and they just did it without calling anyone.

What bugs me about this forum is the number of anal people that want to quibble about petty things. The Michelin tires that I am looking at are 275/55-21 meaning that it is perfectly acceptable to call them 21" since they only fit a 21" wheel. The overall diameter is completely irrelevant unless they are just too big to fit in the wheel wells. But don't take my word for it, just go to the tire store and tell them that you want to buy a set of 34" tires and see what the first question is that they ask you.

Just click on their name below their avatar and a pop up with the middle option of ignore can be clicked. It's the only way this place becomes relevant and useful, stripping out all the nonsense comments, snarky stupidity and OMG clickbait threads as Moderation is light here. I ignore almost a half dozen members a week, trying it, it makes Rivian Forums a much better place.

Thank you all for your advice, think I will get the Michelins with the 70k warranty.

Not trying to hijack this thread but has anyone worn out a set of Defenders yet on their Rivian? If so, how many miles did you get? I got 41,000 on my first set of tires and on pace to do the same with the 2nd set. I have the Perellis. In other cars I have had good success with Michelins. So curious if it is worth switching.

BTW, the tire that comes mounted on the stock 21" wheel is a 275/55R21, which has a diameter of 32.9", not 34".

There are three measurements that matter for tire size - the width, the aspect ratio, and the size of the rim they fit on. The most useful of those numbers, to distinguish between the three rim sizes that Rivian offers, is to mention the rim size. In that context, taking about a '21" tire' is an unambiguous way of providing the information needed to answer the question. If the OP had said '33" tire' that could have meant one of TWO OEM tire sizes.

No one talks about tire diameter as a primary measure because it's not. It's a derived quantity.
