I'm an relatively early res holder and don't want a powered cover under any configuration. If you don't want it let them know, this is how the off road pkg became an option and not built into LE, per CS.
I feel the same way -- I am happy with the existing enclosed storage and Tonneau covers (powered or otherwise) are not attractive to me on a pickup. If I could delete the Tonneau, I would. If not, I will probably just keep it retracted 100% of the time.

Wish that Rivian would listen to customers (here) and do for the powered Tonneau cover what they did for the Off-road shields, make it Optional with a token price reduction. I would leap at the chance to pick the manual version with my L.E. truck and enjoy say a $500 to $1,000 savings to boot.

If this is cause for delays on L.E. deliveries, Rivian should just fess-up and let the market decide what's most important to each buyer. Of course, this assumes Rivian already has a viable manual version standing-by. If not, then I would opt for a tonneau delete choice if need be to accelerate delivery (and save a bit of dough).

Im left wonder what the open cover would do to the milage and if they rate the vehicle with that cover closed.

Mythbusters and other have done studies of this. A pickup truck with an open bed didn't negatively affect mileage (opening the tailgate actually made it worse).
