I think it would make way too much sense so Toyota won't build it.

That article didn't mention it, but thought I saw somewhere else this would get a small battery. Like 140 miles?

You know, I wonder, once we all get over this EV range anxiety thing, if a (economical) sub-200 range EV will be the bee's knees...

Edit: added "Economical"

It's a good point. If it has batteries that can be charged to 100% every day, that range would serve most people's day to day needs. Would be tough for road trips, but not everyone does that.

If they use cost effective LFP batteries so even an idiot can use it, and, it can get close to 250 miles of range, and, they keep the cost around $40k, they won’t be able to build these fast enough.

I see this as about as likely to happen (in the next 3-4 years) as the Nikola Badger pickup

Well it's Toyota. How many EV plans have they announced now?

Toyota fought tooth and nail against EV development since the EV-1 days (1990's).
Their CEO said EVs are not a workable solution.

In fact, he quit because Toyota wants to proceed with EV development.

"To advance change at Toyota, I have reached the decision that it is best for me to support a new president while I become chairman. The change Toyoda is looking to advance is in regards to electric vehicles and navigating the industry moving forward." CEO Toyoda, Jan 2023

Rivian is doing the right thing. This is a great truck, not just a great electric truck. That is the secret behind EVs, make a great car/truck that happens to be electric.

That is why Tesla has done miracles.
