I'm not sure if this totally violates the rules, so please delete if so.

I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on a shop R1S with 22" brights. Would anyone want to swap them for 20" darks?

Id say definitely get what you want. I cant tell you how many posts ive seen of 22's and no one really wants to trade the 20 " dark terrains.

You are probably right.. at a minimum it will be a huge hassle to deal with swapping.

And the dark wheels cost more than the bright - so you'd likely have to offer money as well.

That said, they do sell the wheels in the gear shop for local pickup. Maybe you can convince the local SC to buy your "brand new never used" wheels and put the ones you want on prior to delivery?

Agree with the post above -- hold out for a check that checks the boxes you care about.

In addition to the hassle and costs of swapping (logistics of meeting up to trade, removal costs, installation costs, rebalancing, etc.), there's a $1,700 price delta between the 22" Brights ($1,800) and 20" Darks ($3,500) that the other party would presumably want to be compensated for.

My advice would be to try to find a LE in the shop that has the 20" AT brights configured (which would be included in the $75.5 base for a pre-hike LE) and then add vinyl decals that others have posted about to make them look closer to the 20" darks. Alternatively, if you find a base LE with the 22" brights (also included), you could grab that and buy a separate set of brights ($4,100) and do the same which would net $79.6k (assuming no other options and ignoring the $40 cost of the vinyl decals) and at least in that case you'd have a complete extra set of wheels and tires to either use or sell off.

Good luck!

I’ve read that you can switch the wheels you got in the R1 Shop to an alternate through the Service Center before taking delivery. Contact them to see what options you have.

Just called and the PDX service center denied the rumor that they would take my unused wheels back for a credit :(

Once wheels/tires are mounted on a vehicle, they’re no longer “new” and could never be sold as such. They could be sold as takeoffs, but never new.

Like others have said, no one is probably going to do a straight up trade between 20” darks for 22” brights. Maybe 20” darks for 22” darks.

Have you actually inquired? It may be SC specific.

I talked to the PDX service center and the person I spoke with gave a confident no.

I didn't really think they would, like the poster above says, they are used wheels and have miles on them however few they may be

Thanks for your clarification. It may be that different SC's have different policies or that one broke with policy (or didn't know any better) when they swapped out wheels. It could also be the post I had read about wheel swap with a SC was bogus. It's been a couple of month's and I can't recall which forum I read it on. I'm on way too many. 🤣
