AHHH! I'm only about 3.5 hours from you. Really need to resist the urge for a weekend trip to Charleston for some R1T action and Lewis Barbecue.
We come up to Augusta often. If you shoot me a message I'll keep you looped in and you're welcome to come take it for a spin.

I put my Rivian on Turo last week for $300 a day with 150 miles included range. I also offer a $20 "fillup" option to make it even easier on folks.

So far I've already rented it twice, both to folks looking to test drive prior to reserving. Both put reservations down after the rental.

I'm located in Charleston, SC and expect that I may get more interest when tourist season ramps up from higher end clients who just want something unique.

My wife has family in the Charleston area - we actually stayed in North Charleston over Thanksgiving when we last visited. Next visit I will have to keep this in mind!

We are in the Park Circle area, which is a couple of miles from Tanger Outlets and the airport.

So I know it’s a risk even self driving but what do you do if they total it? Wait another year or two to replace?

My wife is convinced we need to Turo our R1T out for a weekend or two a month and BAM! cover the payment. I am having a hard time wrapping my hands around letting someone "rent it", let a lone drive it.

As long as you get the right customer, I'm sure it will be fine...but...I am still leery about letting someone drive it, again...if they damage it, how long will repairs cost? It is a daily driver so it's not super convenient if it is down and in the shop.

It is a risk we are taking, I agree. We are not looking to make this a major part of the truck's use, so if it starts to shift, we will just take the listing down or raise our price even higher. Turo puts us in the strictest rental class, which requires an older driver with enhanced background and driving grade on Turo. I also review any requests to book when they come in, so if I see any red flags I can cancel.

The truck also has built in tracking, so I periodically check on the location to make sure they are respecting the rental agreement. The Gear Guard cameras also record, and I skim those for anything of note after return.

I never give test rides, only test drives, so I'm an unusual brand ambassador in how comfortable I am sharing the "full" vehicle with others. Getting someone to pay me for a test drive just seemed obvious given how many strangers were driving it anyway.

We are also not overly concerned with damage in our own use, so if it gets a few door dings and scratches from other users, it was bound to happen anyway.

2 days a month covers our car payment PLUS all the miles are going towards our business use, which increases the % business-use we have to leverage for our Section 179 deduction come tax time.

If we wanted to make money on the truck we would have sold it last month for a $70 profit.. At this point we have decided that owning this truck is worth MORE than $70k to us, so might as well just enjoy it and not stress.

I like the way you think. I think I will do the same.
