I wonder what record profits the UAW thinks Rivian and Lucid are raking in.

Don’t under estimate the persuasive marketing of a union. They come in with pie in the sky promises to workers selling them on higher wages, less work, better benefits and better retirement.

Only way to combat that is to have employee engagement teams already in place to ensure employees feel they are valued and already have decent benefit packages. As long as the majority fall into this category things should be fine.

If Rivian's pay and benefits are competitive and they handle workplace incidents appropriately, I see no place for a union to come in "just because".

2 things can happen if they unionize the Normal plant...

Either Rivian will go tits up...
or
They will allow the union to do whatever, and then when the plant in Georgia is up and running, close the Normal plant.

In either case its a lose lose situation for those workers.

I hope the union does not get in.

Normal needs the Rivian plant more than Rivian needs Normal.
There is not much for work there in Normal.

How has Tesla kept UAW out of their plants?

I agree with this. There's a reason the only candidate states for plant #2 were right to work states. If Normal unionizes, Rivian will drop kick that plant into oblivion as soon as it's feasible.

The factory workers all get options in RIVN. I presume that a financial motivating factor for them. That is, they get paid reasonable wages/benefits + options on RIVN for possible big upside.

If they unionize, they’ll likely lose their options

OK call me a bigot but I think that Tesla firing the people in Buffalo for poor performance reviews is just as likely (if not more likely) than because they were trying to organize. Sure sounds better for the unions to say otherwise but…🤷🏻

I would certainly have a better view of unions if not for the seniority above all else mentality. Put some performance requirements in there so people still need to produce and most of my distaste for unions would be mitigated.

So much anti-union sentiment. Guess it was lost on many that as soon as UAW won significant wage increases for its members, other, non-union auto makers gave their workers a bump in pay. I guess many of you believe their largess would've occurred regardless.
