I’m offended by that un-vitation. It’s almost as if they are ashamed to have me in the family:asshat:

Exciting for sure, but boy do I hate how this article starts things:

"The money-losing California-based company"

Many ways to describe Rivian, but they chose to go with that. Obnoxious.
Sensationalism. As old as journalism is a profession. They also chose to caption image (of Denver SC?) as “a long line of unsold Rivians”. How could they have known some weren’t just waiting delivery? Typical AP.

Yeah, saw that too and bothered me as well. Its infuriating how one can't read any article without someone pushing a narrative. Specially against EVs. The image of the Denver SC was also from 2024...like come on. That is as recent as you can get to prove a lazy point? I get having bias, but they are making it sound like this is the worst thing Rivian (and anyone can do) right now.

My takeaway if I knew nothing about Rivian and read the article: "They are going straight to bankruptcy and are about to build a huge factory for cars no one is buying."

Reality: Rivian is preparing for massive growth as they are going to release a mass market vehicle and are hoping to be ready to meet the demand along with bringing several thousands of jobs to the area. And building in America.

These are, IMO, good things. Idk why the author decided to just smear the information with the lazy "EVs aren't selling and will die without the tax incentive" rhetoric.

"Follow the money". Back when everyone got their news from the papers, how did the papers make money aside from selling the papers for pocket change? Ads. With the internet and digitization of news media, anyone could buy a domain, hosts a site, become an information outlet and compete with traditional outlets for ad dollars (but with far lower overhead). That, along with how ads are served and tracked (algorithms), turned the profession into a race to get the most number of views (impressions) and lowest quality of journalism—the more controversial the headline, the more attention it got. And without quality control, volume of editorial journalism (opinion pieces) dominate factual and responsible reporting. Readers really have to work at being conscious of what they consume. But, in doing so, they can easily find themselves consuming only material that suit their own conscious and inherent bias, and become even more biased with each headline consumed.

Did you also notice that "Tesla" is in the URL in spite of it not being part of either the title or lede?

It's at this point a game of spotting the many things wrong with the article.
