This seems like a good forum for advice.

I'm about to purchase a 2023 R1T dual max with 40k miles on it, but the dealer informed me today that a side camera needs to be replaced (in-house) and a rear drive needs either servicing or replacement (at Rivian). The Carfax is otherwise clean. I have some major questions here, like:
Could these be the result of an unreported accident?
Do new motors come with a refreshed warranty?
Is this the typical reliability of a '23 with 40k under the belt?
Are there other things I should be giving a lot more attention now that these issues have cropped up?

Since I haven't forked over any money and the dealer is handling all the paperwork, I don't really have any complaints (yet) other than the delays.

Check for moisture under the driver’s floor mat. You need to turn the A/C all the way on and wait for it

The rear drive unit needs replacement? I’d quadruple check the warranty and make sure Rivian would honor it.

I'd be surprised if it wasn't, it should still be covered under the battery and drivetrain warranty. But in the chance it isn't, the dealer is doing the legwork so if they won't cover it, I walk with no money lost.

Warranty replacements do not reset or extend the warranty. The warranty period remains the original unless you pay out of pocket for repairs. In that case, they get a 24 month warranty.

Warranty reset notwithstanding (I intend to buy a third party extended), isn't the battery/drivetrain warranty 8yr/150k mile?

Warranties are different based on year and trim.

Doubtful that a Rivian accident could go unreported since the work would most like have to be done at a Rivian-cerified body shop.

FWW, I recently totalled my Gen 1 quad 2023 R1S w/ 62.5K miles on it so I recenlty purchased a Gen 1 quad 2022 R1T w/ a 6/22 build date and 15k miles on it and even though it still had 13 months and 45k miles left on the original OEM warranty, I purchased a JD Power & Associates 5 year, 100k mile extended warranty.

That said, one thing my R1S had which I got done under warranty at 58k miles were the front hubs and half-shafts since it had a major case of the tic-tocs (search forums for what I mean if you don't know). My pre-owned 2022 R1T has a slight case of the tic-toc but I'll just wait until right before the OEM warranty runs out to take it in to get serviced.

The bottom line is as long as it's under OEM warranty, no biggie as long as you don't live far from a Rivian SC and DEFINITELY purchase the extended warranty offered by the dealer but shop around first since they make a killing off of them so you have plenty of room to negotiate.

Oh and check the trim pieces especially on the tailgate and bed to make sure they aren't loose. Get the dealer to fix any of thos before you put any money down. Also, when I got my preowned 2022 R1T I went around w/ a treadwear gauge checking the inside and outside tread on every tire to make sure there weren't any alignment issues but also you may be able to use it as a negotiation point if you've got less 5 mm or less on any given tire which means you'll be forking out $1k+ soon after buying for at least a one pair of tires.

Update: dealer says the truck is finally with Rivian and needs a week of diagnostics to determine what to fix. If it IS a motor replacement, does anyone have an idea how long that takes?

Have you considered passing on this one and finding another without these issues?

This. If there was coverage why would the seller not get it fixed free and remove this cloud on the value?
