Vandalism at Portland SC

Word is that some vehicles got vandalized at the Portland SC last night.

Apparently they threw a rock through my back window. Rivian said they will get it all fixed up and don't expect it to delay things. They also said they are going to move to keeping all vehicles inside going forward, that certainly will limit them some in terms of capacity.

I guess this shouldn't be all that surprising given the neighborhood of the new Portland SC. Hope not too many others were effected.

I haven’t been to the downtown location. Just curious what is the concern with the neighborhood.

Crime is not good there, looks like mostly property crime, violent crime is orange in this area but property crime is red. Overall crime is also red.

Typically dealerships, hotels, parking lot operators, etc. Are not liable for an incident like this, so is Rivian just going to replace the glass for you or ask you to make an insurance claim?

They said they were just going to take care of it. My tone would have been very different if they expected me to file an insurance claim.

I can understand with a hotel or parking lot I take the risk but in this case I left my vehicle in the care of Rivian and as far I as I know I didn't not release them from any liability in case of any damage.

Dang, we used to go to Portland all the time. Didn't seem like a town that had that much crime. Just a lot of donuts (Blue Star FTW) and Salt and Straw (luckily there's one right down the street from us now) ?

Significant homeless presence. My sister works up the street and said that during the SC buildout, some of the workers would park in her company's garage. Apparently many were vandalized. ?

Sucks to hear this. Fortunately mine was serviced in Tualatin which appears like a safer part of town. At least the Portland SC is plenty spacious inside. Should easily accommodate the vehicles that would otherwise be outside.

As a 25-year Portland resident, I don't really see it as a neighborhood issue per se. We have a fairly small group of fairly angry and/or substance-influenced people for whom vandalizing $80,00 - $100,000 vehicles would seem fun and/or reasonable. It was just silly of Rivian to leave vehicles in an unfenced area like that, regardless of where in the city it is; I wondered about it from the get go. (For the record, I live about a mile-and-a-half from the Service Center.)

And, while it could have been someone from a nearby camp, I don't assume that's the case; I'll leave that to others.
