What's this opening behind the grille?

Does anyone know what these two ports\openings are at both ends of the grille? The main radiator has the active damper in the center to manage battery temp. Trying to figure what the purpose of those side ports that look like ram airs.

Isn't that one of the vents opening for airflow when the batteries is getting conditioned? I swore reading or watching a YT about this a while back.
