You can turn the climate on from the app, not really much different from the pet feature.
this common misunderstanding will end up killing a pet.

the normal comfort settings turn off after a period of time (maybe 10-20 minutes)

thankfully I found this out with no pet in the vehicle

The other thing about pet mode that I hate is that it’s not available below 50 miles of range even if you are plugged in and charging. When towing that means I have to sit in the truck to keep the hvac going until it charges up to ~25%, then I can turn it on and go in the store. Dumb.

While we're wishing for change...it would be really nice if, instead of turning off after 30 min, "climate" on the app would stay where you set it as long as the vehicle is plugged in. It gets hot quickly here in the morning, and it would be nice to set the climate in advance and have the car nice and cool when you do unplug and drive off. This is a first world problem for sure, and may well lap over from "conspicuous consumption" into "wretched excess" ;)

It wasn't clear if the OP just wanted to turn on the climate. On a Tesla there is a "leave climate on" setting that has nothing to do with pet mode and that's what I used. On the Rivian the only option to do leave the climate on is to turn on pet mode. I use that, though I never leave a pet or a person in the vehicle. If I forget, i just turn on the climate before I leave the store/restaurant/etc.

Seriously though, it's best to just go back to the vehicle anyway if you forgot to turn pet mode on and you're actually leaving a pet in the vehicle.

Yeah my only point was I think Rivian needs to make it more obvious that climate control turns off such as your phone sends you an alert that it’s turned off/ timed out, just so that you’re aware. Regardless of a person/ pet in the car, whatever the reason was that I want climate control running, it should tell me when it turns itself off.

Instead of Pet Mode, I use Camp Mode to keep the HVAC on indefinitely.
