Ouch, It’s a tough crowd. I learned in kindergarten, if you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say anything. You had a 100% legitimate question.
It may have been a 100% legitimate question - but asking a question about it on this forum isn't really the most logical place to get the answer.

Simply looking at the headlines under the stock ticker on any investment research site would have shown multiple reasons:

https://www.marketwatch.com/investing/stock/rivn
https://www.morningstar.com/stocks/xnas/rivn/quote
https://www.fool.com/quote/nasdaq/rivn/
https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/RIVN
https://www.google.com/finance/quote/RIVN:NASDAQ

And on every single one, the first news item is some variation on "Volkswagen $5.8 billion investment" - sure, to those who have been paying close attention, it isn't "fresh news", but there is fresh info *ON* the news, which drove the stock movement. Investors going "oh, yeah, that's right, that was announced - and now it has officially happened, let's make some money."

If you're researching why a stock changed, the first logical place to check is investment research sites. Only if you look there and don't find an answer would it make sense to ask in a forum for the company itself. (Although I'd even consider that third or fourth - I'd check the company's press release or investor relation page first, then maybe an investment forum, *THEN* a company-related forum.)

All very good points. And people could have just ignored his question. No need for rude comments. JMO
