Wiring accessory into the 12v system ?

Is anyone able to provide some guidance on wiring in a 12v accessory? Specifically, would it be possible to get power from either the tow hitch port or the 12v jump point next to the hitch? I’ve spliced into taillight wiring on other vehicles, but since these options are some easily accessible I was hoping to use one of them. I wouldn’t require constant power, but don’t want to cause a problem.

You’re playing with fire, imo. There have been 12V system issues on unmodified trucks. Play with the 12V system and I would seriously worry Rivian wouldn’t help you when a problem arises.

You’re probably right. I’ll look into battery powered options instead.

On the industry standard 7 pin connector you have 12V (pin 4) and ground (pin 1). Not sure what Rivian uses to detect a trailer attached but this probably won't trigger toweing mode (?) - it's more likely a turn signal load they are monitoring since many trailers do not use the 12V pin.

I don't think you can use the 12V jump port. There's some comments online that it is relay isolated to prevent power feeding back to the port.
