Sorry for your troubles. I hope all are well because your vehicle did its job of protecting you.

I’m sorry to see that you lost your Model 3, @Boring Boy , and I hope nobody got injured in the crash.

There is a lot of speculation, but the official word from Rivian is that the shutdown was for a retooling to increase efficiency and reduce production costs. It seems like there may be some new and improved components which reduce cost while being objectively better than the parts on the earlier R1 vehicles, but there is no guarantee that the improvements will be be perceptible to us as owners or that there won’t be some areas which suffer from cost-cutting.

There has also been talk of at least one new trim, Ascent IIRC, but we don’t know what that involves, what it will cost, or when it will be available to purchase.

This probably doesn’t help much, but if you’re pressed for time to replace a vehicle it seems like there is no guarantee of anything being a huge improvement post-retool. It seems like more of an R1.0.1 rather than the R1.1 which would be a true refresh.

If you can wait until June 27, you'll likely get the answer during Rivian Investor Day, as there is a high likelihood of an announcement.

Man that sucks... hopefully everyone is ok. Nobody knows full details on a refresh.

What we do know is that Rivian made some changes and their primary goal is to turn a gross profit on their vehicles. This likely involves cutting cost/complexity out of the vehicles. In addition they want to improve efficiency on the line which also reduces costs.

Rivian will likely come out with a more entry level trim as well to capture customer who are at a slightly lower price point and also to get some fleet business.

There is also talk that Rivian will axe the current quad motor Bosch setup and move to their in house Enduro in a tri motor configuration.

Lastly there is talk of camera and compute improvements for what may be an upcoming subscription based driver assist system.

We just don't know exactly what's down the pike and when/if that will come to fruition. What I can tell you for sure is that anything new won't be discounted like what we are seeing now.

Coming from the Tesla world, you already know that. If you're waiting for the next update, you'll be waiting forever. My suggestion would be to take advantage of current discounts and pick up one now. ?

I think the new models are going to have some nice improvements. That said, you probably won’t be able to get one for at least a few weeks. Can you wait that long? What about getting a Highland Model 3? I drove one a while back and was impressed.

Glad you are safe, from what sales can share I was told don’t look for a great upgrade or something earth changing. As everyone here they are focused on cost reduction in manufacturing, what that said not use I would what the first few thousand off the new line. I pick up my R1S the 21st. If you can wait until end of quarter might get a better deal or addons to sweeten to make it a bit sweeter. However what is left is going pretty quick if you are choosy on exterior and interiors colors… Dual or DPM or quad is your first decision as tire sizes can be swapped. Just food for thought

There are some really good deals on R1Ts right now. Dual motor max pack can be bought for roughly the same cost as Dual motor large. If I was in the market for an R1T I'd get one right now. If you have interest in R1S though you pretty much have to wait, the shop is pretty sparse and no deals right now.

Only if includes rear wheel steering, improved ride quality and FSD option or its equivalent . I have both R1T and R1S. Both feel clunky over broken pavements. The biggest drawback to me, however, is not having FSD as option.
