They were posted an hour ago by the owner operator of the truck. They appear to be exceptionally recent.

90 day temp permit expires on 3/17 so yeah from December I'd reckon.

Could it be a 30 day temp permit? 3/17 is a month out

EDIT: Nevermind… Looked up Illinois TRP and see its all 90 days

That just means the paperwork was submitted on Dec 17, so theoretically could have been pending physical delivery for two months.

I love to know what those ropes are attached to the front. If you can tow an R1 this way, I wouldn’t get the off road package.

I think they're just using tire straps like below. Fine for strapping to a flatbed but not something you'd use in place of the tow hooks.

Probably the lower control arms, this is from the manual;

‘Thanks a bunch. This is very helpful. I found this section and it sounds like they are saying don’t tow charge it or tow R1T period. I have seen Tesla’s tow charging. An a nature vehicle should not need a flat bed for every issue. My R1 buddies should be able to get me out of a jam. It sounds like there is no point in getting the tow hooks If they can’t be used to get myself or others out of a jam. Am I reading this right?

I don't think the tow hooks are meant for highway towing. They are meant to pull you out of a bad situation, not to tow for miles on end.

Correct. The risk there is battery/powertrain damage. Using the tow hooks to rescue a vehicle from a ditch is fine and much preferable to yanking on the control arms. Using the control arms to gently pull the truck up on a flatbed is fine.

I do not think they are referring to recovery but for any length of time like to a garage. Pulling out of a stuck situation should not be an issue.

‘Let me put it this way. If you are out there adventuring with your ICE buddies and you run out of juice off road where a flat bed tow truck wouldn’t go. You are 10 miles away from the closest charger, how do you make it back?

and are you saying this guy should not be doing this with a Tesla either? Or Rivian is designed differently:

I know $2000 is a lot of money to pay for a couple Hooks, but I’m taking @skyote ’s advice here and shelling out.

I am sure it would work as they pulled one with a semi in Long Way Up to charge. My guess is they are discouraging it because of some stress point in the system could be an issue.

For recovery, check the Rivian Insurance or the Rivian Membership, one of those did talk about having off road recovery.

10 miles of low speed towing starting from zero charge would probably be ok (flat towing 600 miles behind an RV, not so much). However, Rivian has cautioned against towing without any qualification. Question is will it void your warranty if something gets cooked? Time to go read the fine print....

I agree with you here, especially if you can turn it on. I’m not sure what the difference being powered on would be towing verses coasting down a hill.

Possibly something will over heat with extended charging that way. I thought I saw in that Tesla video it warned about overheating and stopped charging at some point but I would have watch it again.
