Did anyone else get that survey shortly after their reservation for the R2? I remember it kept asking very similar question and 2 things that I remember were them asking if...

If they offered a dual motor setup that did 0-60 in 3.5 secs etc etc would you buy it?

Also

If they offered a tri motor setup that did 0-60 in 2.5 secs etc etc would you buy it?

I think those numbers are very close to the actual numbers we will see if not bang on. My guess in hp? The single motor will be 275hp, the AWD will be around 550hp and the Tri motor in the 750hp range.

I didn’t read the whole thread. But my suggestion is look directly at the pricing/specs of the new updated MYP for an indication of what the R2 Tri is gunning for.

$60-70k, will come pretty loaded, under 3.0 secs imo.

Yeah @elektrode, I have a 2023 R1S Quad and if I leave that car for a Tri-motor R2 I'll probably never go QUAD again because the new QUADS are just way too expensive and honestly; 1000 HP is overkill even for someone like me who loves high HP. 800 HP is just right. Only way I would go QUAD again is if I got a used one at a crazy price. If going off the current R1S pricing structure is any indication, then I'm estimating the tri-motor R2 to be somewhere in the neighbordhood of 70-75K.

You don't like hp then. I'm here dreaming of a quad axial flux motor with 4000hp. Moar power agh agh -Tim

Dunno if they're hinting at the tri motor, but on Thursday Rivian posted this on facebook 🤔

As far as I can tell, every picture in the post is an R2, and this shot has silver, yellow, and teal calipers... I don't remember them showing off teal calipers on an R2 before (please smack me upside the head if I'm wrong)

A Quad R2 with a 2.5 0-60 time or better. 400 miles of range. Faster charging. 70-75,000 cost I would definitely be interested.

Those are R1 monoblock brakes. R2 has a different 2 piece design.

Also whats up with the paint on the middle one? Doesn't look 'marketing photo ready' by a long shot?

Little sanity check.

R1S Quad:
0-60 2.6 sec
374 miles range
$121,990 starting price

Your R2 Quad:
0-60 2.5 sec
400 miles range
$70,000~75,000 starting price

Why would Rivian shoot themselves in the foot? If R2 did that, there is no need for R1S Quad. Pay $50k more and go less and slower....

Rivian will make sure that their flagship vehicle would not be outpaced or ranged by R2.

Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.
I don't know about everyone else but the only way I would jump from my current R1S Quad to an R2 is by way of a tri-motor version.

I want to keep the 800+ HP I currently have and the estimates I've seen for the upcoming tri-motor R2 should be somewhere in that range.

However at the moment of starting this thread (early 2025) there is very little information on the tri-motor R2. Rivian itself has to figure out the final production specs for this R2 version (if they haven't already)

Nonetheless, I thought it would be good to have an official Tri-motor R2 thread for those expecting to purchase this trim level of the R2. I don't care to hear the dribble about the single or dual motor R2's. That's been beat to death by others. I already know the cheapest version will start somewhere around 45K. Also, I know the R3 will be powerful and a very exciting car in it's own right. But I only want this thread to focus on the R2-Tri.
Yes, at this point it's very early and it's speculation. But it's reasonably fun to have a space to focus on the following as we get closer to 2026:
  1. What will a tri-motor R2 cost?
  2. How much range do you feel we can realistically expect from a tri-motor R2?
  3. When will it be available?
  4. Colors?....will it mimic the current tri-motor R1S lineup?
Interested to hear how many are targeting the tri-motor.
RJ has already hinted at an R2X. That’s what the R2 tri-motor will be. I think it will be $10K-$15K above the Performance trim, just like I think the R3X will be $10K-$15K above the R3.

As for range I feel like it’s got to hit 300. Back in 2024 they said 300+, so I don’t think any R2 should be under that. I’m not sure if a Max Pack is possible on the R2. It’s 14” shorter than the R1S and it’s a structural battery pack. We’ll know more once someone tears down all of the current models.

Availability is tricky. The R2 comes out in 2026 with the R3X slated for late 2028. Does Rivian focus on R2 variants, like the R2X, because they’ve already got the tooling and production for R2 ready to go, or do they focus on the R3X and R3 and release the R2X closer to a mid-cycle refresh? I guess it all depends on R2 sales, how fast the Georgia Plant is built, and how difficult it is to create a new line for the R2X vs. the R3X/R3. They have to watch cannibalizing one model for the other.

Colors for the R2X would also be tricky. We thought the cerulean blue Catalina Cove was exclusive to the R3X, but now it’s on the R2, minus the orange Pacific Sunset side mirrors and accents. Higher trims seem to have exclusive colors, like Launch (Rivian) Green and Borealis for the Launch (Performance) Edition. I’m sure the R2X will be the same.

Just my two cents. Feel free to agree or disagree in varying measure.

They won’t,

R2 performance was already said to be tri motor 0-60 2.9 same as the R1 Tri.
