That, specifically, has not been my experience at all. Are you in an area with poor reception or cellular data (the latter should not to be confused with the number of signal bars and can be caused by network congestion, independent of signal strength)? A lot of the processing is happening off-vehicle so wondering if that might be causing your problems. Doesn't make it any more usable but it's a different problem than being buggy.
Full 5G area. Zero issues except with the Rivian Assistant. Alexa turns on the lights, hvac, music, weather, etc. with zero issues in the same coverage. Not sure why Rivian Assistant would go "Weather in xxxx is 49 de" and cut off. Restarted the truck (hard reset). Didn't change experience. Tried in my garage on my wifi - no difference. Alexa is better and that is saying something...

This isn't being reported as a common problem, something is "wrong" with your truck.

Nothing wrong at the moment with Rivian Assistant disabled :)

I would still report it to Rivian. Alexa is not likely to stick around forever. Rivian will almost certainly remove it once the new Assistant is a little more mature and they roll out things like a native Amazon Music app.

it was documented by Rivian:

1779126772039-e7.webp
Read this thread this morning, and confirmed that it was on in my settings.

During a drive a little while ago I asked RA if it would remember previous queries, learn my patterns, etc.

It said it does NOT. It very clearly stated that each session was as if previous requests and instructions didn't happen.

Is this true, contrary to what seems to be the expectation, or is this a case of an LLM telling me what it thinks I want to hear?

I would genuinely like RA to understand my commuting patterns, for example, which include ferry routes. I want it to be able to tell me if I'm going to make it to the dock to catch the next sailing, or tell me, if sailings are delayed, or (for routes that post this information) if the next sailing is already full.

If it's not going to learn those things, what is the point of turning Memory on?

Rivian Assistant worked great for us. Obviously nowhere close to perfect but it's miles ahead of Alexa in terms of conversational intelligence.

However, having to lose Amazon Music is an absolute deal breaker. We'll have to grudgingly switch back to Alexa until Rivian gets its act together and figures out a way to support Rivian Assistant + Amazon Music. The developers there must not be using Amazon Music and/or must be way out of touch with customer preferences!

Amazon Music is coming "sooner than you think" according to Wassym.

I don’t get why Rivian would deploy Rivian Assistant without Amazon Music but yet tell folks it’s coming faster than you think. If it is that close to being added, why not wait and release Rivian Assistant with it.

because they are unrelated products with their own development and release cycles. no need to hold one product back while still working on the other, especially when there is valuable usage data to be gained from launching the new Assistant now (information which will help the Assistant mature much faster than without).

If you ever use various voice chatbots, grok is in a different league in how fast it is. I think the other ones feel too slow when you get used to the feeling of really talking to someone

I wonder what the difference is and when gemini will get to that speed

Rivian Assistant uses a hybrid approach, Microsoft Azure OpenAI for its complex conversational reasoning but layers it under Rivian's own "Unified Intelligence" platform.

Grok uses Elon’s xAI ecosystem. It runs directly on Tesla's vehicle hardware (AI4/AI5 chips). It’s definitely the faster responding of the two but it lacks full vehicle control and is navigation based.

It's not running on the car. It's running at colossus the last time I asked grok something

I don't know how they get it so much faster

you're basically streaming live audio direct to memphis, it is interpreting the words and sending the response back in what feels like real time. I believe it starts processing the answer before you have even finished what you are saying
