I run model rocketry programs every summer at local impoverished schools.

Oh, well hell.
I guess Rivian got it wrong and should've collaborated with you for their R2 Marketing and STEM push!

RJ, yes, this guy right here!!

Ok, so let me get this straight.
He did one thing that you fundamentally disagree with, so his character in totality is completely dismissive and outright regarded as outcast to you?

Sorry, I must have missed it: what exactly have you done to improve the interest, exposure, and build excitement amount STEM for our youth? I guess I missed that between your needless vitriol and incessant hate-mongering.
Do you apply this same line of thinking to Elon Musk? He's done more for the world than most people despite his "Republican" shortcomings.

Nice mockery, and sadly expected. It’s a real reflection on you. What exactly are YOU doing? One of those kids is now at NASA.

Now we're going to need that Cybertruck full of popcorn for the excuse-making.

This is a much more sensical take on the situation. I think "lying weasel" is a bit aggressive myself.

Same premise as above. "Didn't work" is far more accurate than "backfire" here.

I'll defend Rober a little here. He's done more good than harm overall, and if he gets, well anyone really, more excited about science that's a win. In a world full of people that can't think logically I'll take whatever help we can get to turn that tide. Rober's a good force in that regard, even if not perfect at all times.
I don't dislike him for it at all. I'm sure he was a little mislead by them, and we all do things for a payday that we might regret later.

People hate Elon Musk for being Republican and having different views than liberals. Maybe they should give him "grace" too.
All the issues I have with Elon are not "because he's a republican" .. "with different views". I like and even love plenty of people I disagree with politically.

The things I can't stand about Elon also don't make me hate Tesla as a brand or hate my Cybertruck, but I also understand completely why someone wouldn't want to give him any more money. I personally wish he had left Tesla completely when he bought X. The company would be better now IMO. He played his part, and then got distracted.

As an aside, I just watched this video yesterday and I think it's pretty spot on

Any video that portrays Elon Musk's hand gesture as Nazi salute, is not one I'm interested in watching. It's already click bait and purposedly misleading on it's surface.

The Democrats ostracized him long before he went to the right - a man that voted for Obama twice and Clinton.

Purposely so, since it's true. It also turned out that one of his viral video series was set up also, and he at least apologized that time. Lying weasel.
If I remember right, he sent the test package to a friend, who then rigged the steal for video footage, so in that case he trusted the wrong guy and didn't' verify accuracy.

Also, lets be really clear about the intent of Rober, and YouTube here. He's a creator who delivers media on an entertainment based website. He's not the Pope. I think that context is important.

And I hate this premise, but of all the ways one could be a lying weasel, this is quite benign.

I see you are on Stage II Mark Rober Views: Negotiating. I'm at Stage IV: Annoying Protestor. Don't let my kids watch his videos and use him as an example of how fame and success can corrupt.

The Tesla/Luminar scam video was exactly that, a scam. They drove a old Tesla Model Y through a fake wall without auto-pilot/FSD even on and pretended it failed. In our current social-media-is-destorying-the-planet climate this may seem like a little oopsie, but not in my household.

While his old content was great, he is no longer getting people excited about Science and Engineering, he is giving parents moral permission to plop their kids down in front of a screen and believe its doing good. While his videos used to share the process and the failures, he now glosses over any real problem solving, and instead aims to deliver dopamine.
Man, so much to unpack here. All based on what feels like overzealous pessimism of intent. I just can't live that way, its exhausting.

And Elon Musk is just a builder of cars, robots, and spaceships. He's not the pope.

He has done? No. He has pushed other teams to get done.

If you've ever worked for his company it's a shit show of cash burning, talent exploitation, and poor decisions based on the premise of "failing fast". I've worked with both SpaceX and Tesla professionally, and both companies are a verifiable nightmare to both work for and with.

I think you got me confused with someone else, or are using my post to drive a point to someone else. I didn't attack Elon.

Also, the work environment at ANY Elon owned company is so absurdly toxic that it's quite a different animal than some videos on YouTube. There's quite a chasm in severity here.

That image is the one most Elon haters love to post so it gets their attention to watch it. It’s actually not just about Elon but shows how he has changed over time.

I am simply making the point to the broader thread that people have rosey glasses depending on the person in question.

If we can't criticize Mark Rober's lack of character, then we can't criticize Elon Musk, Donald Trump, or anyone else the majority of people on this forum dislike.

As the kids say - "make sure you keep that same energy"

I can agree with that. We each have a different view based on a myriad of experiences.

If we're criticizing character though, I think we have to keep circumstances in mind. Delivering a video that doesn't disclose a conflict of interest is much different than attempting to run a government agency without congress approval.

We MUST keep the offense in mind when considering these things; context is important.

That's before we even consider the person as a whole and the overall benefit/deficit they bring.

Agreed, there are levels to everything. My use of hyperbole in this thread was intentional, as it draws a reaction to persons the majority on this forum seem to dislike, even vehemently dislike.

If we are going to parse through Mark Rober and say the good outweighs the bad then that's fine, but we must keep that nuance when discussing Elon Musk for example. He after all is the sole reason EV's exist in USA or even the world for that matter. He was the sole driver for making EV's possible.

Without him the global automotive landscape would look entirely different today. If you look at the sheer scale of production, the charging infrastructure, and the cultural shift that made EV's highly desirable rather than an environmental compromise, no single individual has done more to accelerate us to where we are today than him.

If (proverbial) you don't believe that, I would suggest taking a look at the color of the tint on your glasses. No one has done more than him in that regard.
