Does anyone know if the R2 has underbody skid plates and if so what materials they are?
The whole underside of the vehicle looks like one big skid plate. Not sure what it’s made out of.

Did my Demo Drive in N. Las Vegas, and I was really impressed with the R2. I think the halo wheel clicking/rotating issue is one that will get resolved with a day or two of use. For those that were concerned about the MagSafe not working, at least for my demo vehicle, the guide said the function was not turned on in the demo vehicle. Same for the cruise control, it was not an active feature on the demo.

The regen in "high" is very aggressive, it stops much harder/quicker than in my Mach e in one pedal driving. The "moderate" level is probably the sweet spot as "low" felt like it would slowly coast to a stop.

The backseat has plenty of room... leg room, head room, shoulder room, all very impressive. Even with the driver's seat pushed as far back as it can go, I could sit behind the driver and have more than enough space to be comfortable riding back there (not that I ever will).

The acceleration was incredible. Not quite R1 Quad impressive, but it was still pretty awesome. The test drive wasn't long enough for me to really play with the different firm, moderate or soft ride feels over different terrains and bumps. But the vehicle felt really comfortable and smooth in moderate ride feel setting.

Vegas only had one R2 on demo and it was the Half Moon Grey, Black Crater Signature interior on the 21" wheels. I really didn't want a boring grey tone, but the more I see the Half Moon Grey, the more I think it might actually be my favorite. Still wish Storm Blue or Limestone were an option though.

The demo drive absolutely solidified my desire to purchase one of these bad boys. I can't wait to get my order invite!

It looked like a pretty flimsy carbon reinforced plastic. Not sure if there is anything under that before the battery case though. Planning on pulling mine off and investigating making metal skid plates.

Just an fyi…Regarding the frunk button, you have to push and hold for a second for it to pop. With the button for the rear glass you do have to push and hold it seems for it to go down or up.
Also, door handles sound so much better than R1 vehicles. Cup holder was the only thing I had issue with…seemed to pop out after pushing in unless you hold it in for a second. 🤷‍♂️

I had my test drive today in Buffalo Grove, IL. I have never driven an EV until today. Most of the time was going over the instrument panel and 1 pedal driving. Driving, I found myself focus on how to drive.

As for audio system, it was good to me. Not sure what all the hoopla about the Audio system. No YouTube music, so I had to steam from my phone over bluetooth which is usually not that great. YouTube music may come later.

I'm sold, I can't wait until my number comes up.

I most have been pushing the R2 harder than my wife's model Y because I had to use the brake many times with regen on high. I don't normally use the brake at all. I would love a higher setting personally.

Took a Demo drive in King of Prussia PA space this afternoon. They had one R2 inside the space and one outside for drives. Both Catalina Cove. I was the only customer in the store so had all the time in the world to explore it, sit inside and get used to the controls. I don't currently own an R1 and have never owned an electric vehicle. I've been on the verge of pulling the trigger on an R1S for some time but wanted to wait to see the R2 in person before making a decision. I test drove the R1S a couple times and the R2 felt very similar to the R1S. I love driving both. The R2 is very roomy on the inside, plenty of space. From the outside the R2 looks smaller than I was expecting and the rear trunk was much smaller than I thought it would be. Overall R2 was fun to drive.

Just back from a good session at the KoP, PA space. They have two Catalina Cove models - one in the space and one for test drive. They didn’t accompany me for the test drive. As said by others spacious, well built. Unable to test NVH as much as I would like but motors quieter than Gen 2 R1 quad.

Driver screen is much smaller than I thought and would take a little getting used too.

Was told a new service and delivery center is coming to Colmar (Bucks county) next year which has many more parking spots than Malvern so that will help.

The person at the space also looked up where I was in line and said that I was due to get an order email in 1-2 weeks. I reserved one hour after reservations opened. He said Rivian were starting g with the first 15 minutes, then the next 15 minutes, then an hour, then a day and going out from there.

I had been going back and fore on colors and seeing the Catalina Cove and the 20” wheels helped make my choice. They will get a Glacier White one for test drive next week.

Overall impressed but the R1 is still a cut above, as it should be for the price.

Small world! They had a recommended route from the mall to Wegmans and back. 15 minute drive.

Yes agree going on highway would be useful to assess road and wind noise.

from what I understand this is to prevent accidental turning on/off. a deliberate press and hold is needed. I think it's the right decision.

New here!

Had a chance to test drive in Costa Mesa location today. Overall it was all that I expected. I test drove a R1S about a month and a half ago and this R2 didn't feel any "lesser" than R1S in terms of materials. A lot of room in every seat as well, nothing felt cramped. I didn't get to test out the Audio since I didn't want to hook up my phone to Bluetooth during the test drive.

Loved all the storage, including 2 glove boxes. I gave it a bit of push on Sport mode which was great. Overall I think it's a great addition that I'm hoping for our household to add as a roadtrip car along with the Gravity.

I am looking forward to eventually getting the rooftop tent that Rivian has made for the R2.

One thing I noticed and wondered if other did is that the indicator noise was louder than in R1 and sounded like it was coming through the speakers. No option in settings to change.

One thing I noticed and wondered if other did is that the indicator noise was louder than in R1 and sounded like it was coming through the speakers. No option in settings to change.
It's also two different sounds vs only one in R1. Probably to make it sound less like a dripping faucet.
