Everyone will find out when to expect their invite by the end of June, not get the actual invite.
I prefer the R2 (loved the test drive), but if I have to wait till ‘27, I’ll get the new Volvo EX60 (have reservation, expected in Sep - Nov).

I have a real hard time with the idea of making such a major purchase from a Chinese company…the most American made and owned SUV you can buy is the Tesla Model Y, but other options exist.

No, it doesn't. You said they announced that deliveries would be early 2026. Rivian has never said that. Just because someone says "first half" doesn't mean that it's going to actually then be "first quarter".
I thought the release had been spring 2026 and recall people stating that was up until June 20th which is the official start summer. People do parse Rivian’s dates a bit too much as the difference between Spring 2026 and by end of first half is only a few days.
They have met their consistent message about deliveries starting to customers.

The release window for R2 has always been first half 2026, ever since the first reveal in 2024. I even checked the internet archive. Fine print even then said "first half of 2026".
Rivian has been stunningly good about meeting their stated deadlines.

I would assume that "August" means "by the end of August."
Meaning that ordering will be availalble by August 31.
Safer that way, and there's alwasy a chance I will be pleasantly suprised!
You can Order it if you get an order request, but it will delay your delivery until they starts installing it in/after August.

This is not true. If you get an order invite right now and try to order Coastal Cloud, it tells you its not available yet and you can "Request build" where it notifies you when it is ready. You don't pay the $400 lock in deposit yet until its ready.

Ahh yes, that is what I meant....you can select it but can't go through with the full order. Thanks for clarifying.

Can someone answer this question:

When you get an invite to order, does it come with a deadline? So do you have X amount of days to submit your order?

TIA >> Thank you in advance

This is from Rivian’s web site, my invite had no expiration date noted.

When you receive an order invitation, you’ll be able to finalize the options for your R2 and confirm your order. Once confirmed, you can expect to take delivery in 2-6 weeks. You can order whenever you are ready, however models, options and pricing can change based on availability. Your configuration and pricing are not locked until you confirm your order.

This is the key difference compared to the R1. Previously, they locked in everyone's price and configuration first, then scheduled them for production based on reservation order and part availability. This time, you don't configure until they have a production slot for you, but whenever you do configure you can expect delivery in short order. The downside is they can change prices or options at will, and they only let you order what's currently in production.

Anywho, seems like no invites went out yesterday. I’m new to the Rivian scene but need this R2 asap as I’m turning my Polestar back over on July 3. I’d reeeeally like to not be without a car for several months. Debating on just doing a SIXT rental while I wait. I was hoping being in IL would work in my favor.

Totally agree on the first line. I treat these comments the same way I treat noises in the street ….. benign neglect.
Yes, if your reservation end up spilling into 2027, you might as well wait for RAP & LIDAR. Even if you don’t care about self driving, it helps for future compatibility and when it’s time to sell.

I honestly think the depreciation curve on the launch edition R2's is going to be brutal in 24 months.

By then Lidar/RAP1 will have been out for over a year, and all the cheaper trims will also be out.

Look at used Teslas and look at the difference in resale value between the *newest* HW3 cars and the *oldest* HW4 cars. An early 2023 Model S with HW3 goes for about $40k. A car produced a month later, still Model Year 2023 but with HW4 goes for close to $60k. Same story on Model 3/Y.

Gen 2 vs Gen 3 chip R2 will follow a similar path once Rivian gets further along on their autonomy goals. Most people will not want the old gen tech.

Hmmm...I'm not sure it's that drastic. Have any examples to share?

HW3 Model Y for sale at $33,998 with 50k miles

HW4 Model Y for sale at $33,998 with 40k miles

Carmax is a notoriously bad example. For example, they have this Model Y Standard listed as a "Long Range (Premium)" and priced at $6k over MSRP right now due to this error.

That HW3 Y will likely need a price correction to sell.

That being said, R2 may not follow the exact depreciation curve I laid out, but what is absolutely true is that launch editions will suffer accelerated depreciation vs any RAP1/Lidar model.
