I’ve had several sets of the Pirelli tires on my R1T and liked the range and ride. They are spendy but I’m willing to live with that. I now have the Defender tires on the R1T and overall I prefer the Pirelli.

I think this is the first comment I’ve read where someone said something positive re the Pirelli’s. I have the 22’s on my R1S and they have been great. Comfortable ride, very good range and good wear. I have 15k miles and all 4 tires are between 10-11/32. Essentially still new. I rotate every 5k, run the pressure at 50 psi and keep it mellow behind the wheel.

My 22" OEM Pirelli tires are excellent. Good all around performance, quiet and efficient. I think the complaints are regarding the 20" AT tires. Apparently they get very noisy when they wear.

I live in MPLS too, and the tires are the only decision point left for configuring. The Pirelli 21s on my R1S struggled when it got icy. I ordered on press day, but messed something up--I called a couple of months later, and they didn't have me down. Probably doesn't matter since I want the light interior. You will be seeing another white R2 around town fairly soon I hope.

FWIW - I've been obsessing whether or not to get the 21's or 20's on the R2. The 21" Pirellis, there are A LOT of complaints about them. If I had to rank, I'd say #1 is tread life and #2, winter ability. We have about 1 year of Scorpions on my wife's Mazda and so far so good but #1 - she drives like a saint and #2 not a EV FWIW. Come on Michelin, make CC2's for the Rivian 21's!!

I think GW looks the best with all the dark trim, really wish we could get Limestone though.

I just got a message that I am 4-6 weeks from being able to configure, then 4-6 after that for delivery.

About those hatch buttons….. we really struggled with the back lift gate at the service center. It was getting a bit awkward with the Rivian guy. It worked for him no problem but not for us. We said, well we will figure it out later. And I think we did, the trick is to cover the whole sensor with the pad of your finger briefly then remove. We were holding our finger in place and that was not working. In, brief pause, out. Same for the frunk. The back window does require some pressure and keeping your finger in place.

Apparently we were delivery number 10 or so out of the Minneapolis service center.

I received an email from Rivian today telling me that me I will be able to choose a model in 12/26-1/27. I’d like to wait a bit, I understand I can defer without losing my position in line. Is that correct?

I hope someone can answer that question. My email says my invite to order is Dec-Feb. And if @Bullwinkle is correct about the two 4-6 week periods, we should be able to order GW with CC interior and hopefully get the Gen3 with lidar for Thanksgiving, worst case.

I’m getting my invite in Nov-Dec and already settled on GW / CC. I’m still unsure about going with the 20” vs 21”. I don’t care about the AT tires on the 20” but there are far more tires in that size to replace with. I like Pirelli tires and used them in the past. Any insight on your decision to go with the 21”?

I also have an R1T which came with the Pirelli all seasons. I got 35.000 miles out of the 3 different sets (I have 100k R1T miles under my belt). I like the range and the ride/performance of them. On the lighter R2 I’m expecting more than 35,000 miles. Given the up charge for the 20” AT factory option which would about pay for another set of 21” tires you would be past 70,000 miles before you recover that higher 20” AT up charge cost.

I also have some AT tires (Nokian Outpost nAT) and wheels for my R1T for use in serious off road conditions. I dislike them for daily/freeway driving. Go with a good all season unless you have a really good reason for off road tires. Get a proper winter tire if you need that, AT tires are no replacement for a true winter tire.

I’ve got the same invite window as you. I feel like the whole “place in line” thing is very malleable based on so many factors. Rivian is just going to move people around based on their preferences and what’s available. We’ll get the vehicles that we actually want, or can afford in my case, eventually.
