I hope analysts ask how many cancellations have been requested between today and the earnings call next week.

(Also, this came out almost exactly as MLB cancelled opening day not to mention the many for more important issues in the world than Rivian and baseball).

Rivian can't back down or wiggle on these prices at all. They know we'll compare notes and they'd ultimately have to give everyone a discount. My config went from $78K to $96K on the R1S. I would easily have been willing to pay $5K or $7K more, but $18K? That + Elon Musk being an absolute legend + Rivian's crummy fluid dynamics/higher cost to run... and I think I'm gonna get me a second Tesla instead...

I'll keep my Sep 2021 pre-order for now, but going from just over $80k to just under $100k isn't an option for me. Not for something that really just gets me from Point A to Point B. Maybe over time I will be ok with the "new" $80k R1T, but I feel like if I am buying from an unproven startup, there should be a discount, and I don't think there is a "discount" in the new prices. Rivian still has a lot of unknowns, from delivery to service. What is the subscription model they have mentioned in the past? People who had reservations for years really got screwed. Rivian could have some tiered price increases, before 2020 one price, before 2021 another higher, and after Jan 1 2022 another. I guess they felt it was better to rip the band aid off and jack them up all at once. They probably know they will sell all they can build for awhile, but can't build all they want. They have known for a long time they had to increase prices, seems really devious to do it right after a media blitz/IPO/employee deliveries, and right before customer deliveries. Only adds credibility to the lawsuit from the former executive.

I also doubt I would have done a preorder for a $100k vehicle, much less buy stock in the company.

Reposting an image I made awhile back! I suggest we play a Squid Game, the final one standing gets their Rivian at the original price! The queue will be reduced quickly after the first game of Red-Light, Green-Light!

The good news is that I was able to cancel my pre-order and get my deposit back without any COMCAST like tactic. It was thank you and have a great day. I still think this shows incredible bad faith. So disappointing. I guess it will be a few more years before I go EV.

Guys as a person who has been through this too many times. DO NOT CANCEL YOUR PREORDERS YET.

for the love of god just don‘t. Sit on it and let the dust settle.

im still catching up on this thread and am collecting my thoughts on this. Well aware people will complain “but you got it cheaper” all I’m saying is don’t knee jerk yourself in the nuts

Do you mind sharing what reservation number you were? I was in the first couple thousand on release day and I was hit with the huge increase. It would be extremely unfair if early adopters are getting price increases when those that reserved a vehicle later are not.

Honestly this feels like a bait and switch, and a way to pump up the pre-order numbers. It’s easier to appeal to shareholders when you have a lot of pre-orders, and no real competition coming down the pipe. But they knew when push comes to shove that they would have to raise prices because they would lose money on every unit.
In the most cynical part about of my brain I’m thinking something similar.

I’m wondering if there’s enough demand at that price to keep the company afloat?

Boy there’s a bunch of folks on the lightning forum who cancelled their order and put a deposit on a rivian when they saw the official pricing for the F150.

Their heads are going to explode! That was what? Like a month ago?
