My telluride has blown my mind away and far exceeded my expectations.

Cancelling my preorder and going to find out where the EV9 forums are because that will be my first 7 seater EV for sure now.

Quoted for all the folks who proclaim "there havn't been any price increases since they set their initial price".
Rivian never gave estimated prices while those were still on the table. It was target pricing, which was probably valid at the time, but they also probably underestimated how much engineering cost and production cost would be involved with them when they set their target. Target was more important, so stuff got axed.

As our production continues to ramp up, we want to share new information that affects your Rivian preorder.

Vehicle base pricing and the cost of certain options, upgrades and accessories have increased. All packages of the R1S will now only be offered in a 7-seat configuration.

We’re in the process of updating your Rivian Account page to reflect these adjustments and we will send you an email notification when the update is complete. Until then, all product and pricing updates can be viewed in our configurator.

These price increases — the result of inflationary pressure on the cost of supplier components and raw materials across the world — will allow us to maintain product excellence as we continue investing in electrification for our shared future. We remain committed to offering compelling products and helping drive competition, inspiring as many drivers as possible to switch to electric vehicles.

To that end, today we’re also announcing the introduction of Rivian Dual-Motor AWD for both R1T and R1S. Dual-Motor AWD features one motor for each axle for exceptional power and control. The system is designed to excel both off-road and on-road, going from 0-60 mph in as few as 4.0 seconds while still delivering all-wheel traction. Deliveries are planned to begin in 2024. We are also introducing our 260+ mile range Standard battery pack, with deliveries planned to begin in 2024.* Dual-Motor AWD and Standard battery pack are available now in our configurator, where you can find more information on each.

We’re grateful to you for being an early supporter of Rivian and helping drive the EV movement towards an enduring and livable world. If you have any questions about your preorder, we’re here to answer them.

Thank you again for being on this journey with us.

— Team Rivian
This price gauging and bait/switch tactic should be illegal. 25% price jump for “inflation” just a couple months after my preorder? WTF was I that I missed a 25% inflation spike in the last few days? I’m out and now looking at Tesla Plaid or even Lucid instead of this new price of over 100k for the rivian I won’t get for 3 years

I put a deposit on a launch edition. My build was about $74,000...now $87,000. I was torn between the Rivian and a Bronco (which I also have an order for). My build with the Bronco is about $55,000. The Rivian at $74,000 - $7,500 tax break ($66,500) was at the top end of my budget for a car but I could justify spending the extra money vs the Bronco which I really love. The break even on getting the Rivian over the Bronco for me at the extra $11K would have been about 4 years assuming electric prices don't increase or there is an EV tax. At a $25K difference the break even is obviously much longer. There are other reason I wanted the Rivian, I love the brand and feeling like I am investing in the environment (even though there are good arguments against how EV's are produced and what lithium mining does to the local environments) make a lot of sense to me and align with me. However, at $86K (I'm not interested in watered down Rivian in 2024) it puts the truck and the brand in another category / tier of cars. At least for my budget, $75 was pushing it but could be do-able, like many others, anything over that really prices me out for multiple reasons. No longer adventure for everyone. I'll be going with the Bronco whenever that gets built. I'm pretty sad about having to cancel my preorder because I would have gotten the Rivian in 3 months (who really knows) but the way I see it, they made the choice for me.

Just another thought, I want Rivian to be successful but I think once Toyota comes out with a Taco EV it might be game over.

I’ve skimmed through this thread and there’s not a whole lot I can add that’s new. I will say that what grinds my gears the most is my agency was taken away. Had Rivian adjusted the price earlier I would’ve put in a Lightning reservation. It would seem I’m now screwed since Ford doesn’t appear to be accepting reservations at this point. I can put in a reservation on a Silverado but it doesn’t look like I’d see one until 2024.

****PSA****For anyone moving forward with your order, or making jokes saying, "awesome, now I'll jump up in line":

1) Yes, Rivian screwing over it's most loyal customer base is a 'first world problem', but many of your peers have been daydreaming about this truck for years. Be respectful. Not everyone has unlimited funds, and perhaps has been budgeting a (ballpark) price for many years to make this purchase come true for their family.

2) If you move forward with your pre-order, despite being bent over by Rivian (repeatedly), you'll be somewhat of a scab crossing the picket line. While you're driving your Rivian all high and mighty, you'll have many groups of people snickering at you. Anyone who wanted a Rivian will know you're a scab. And anyone who watches the news will know money means little to you. I wouldn't want to be the one guy in a parking lot with a brand new Rivian - that's just me. A stigma has not been created. Good luck getting over that hump, Rivian...

Lol I love how people think the "floor' is some sort of dimensional portal that swallows seats. Two extra seat backs, two seat bottoms and the folding mechanism take up a significant amount of storage space.

Forcing all R1S's to 7-seaters is completely IDIOTIC.
I love how people think leaving the third row out opens up some dimensional portal to create a lot more USABLE space. I've owned two Suburbans with third row seats and an Avalanche with a foldable back seat and midgate. I know a little bit about how much space they take up when collapsed AND how the 3rd seat sits over the rear axle hump and footwell. Yes, R1S has a rear axle hump and footwell which greatly constrains space utilization. They simply don't take up as much USABLE space a everyone makes out.

Scab? Are you saying I should expect harrassment? For my truck to get keyed? You seem to condone as much. Is it OK to damage the $105k range rover? Or how about the $100 lifted Ram TRX all tricked out?

Some of y’all need to look at the facts and calm down.

I feel I am played by a Real Joke! Config for R1S went up from 78k to 95k and will loose the fed credit! This is definitely not the way I was expecting Rivian to treat its loyal and hopeful customers!
Rivian had couple of advantages, the looks and the price point. I feel later had a bigger selling point which is no more. Would I buy a low range Rivian with this price point, definitely not after this backstabbing!

This is a total rug pull. Get the preorder numbers up to go public then wait till their lock up periods expire before they announce $20k price increases on the R1-T and R1-S launch editions!! This is not just inflation. What a scam.
Can you confirm that managements lock up has expired? If they are so stupid to have sold post lock up and pre price increase announcement they deserve everything they will get from shareholders and the SEC.

I was skeptical of the VP of Marketing claiming "good ole boy culture" etc. And of her claims that Rivian knew pre-IPO they were going to have to raise prices.

But as time goes on, there are fewer reasons to trust them in any important way. Squandering this trust will cost them for many years.

That 80k limit for the EV credit is for a proposed bill, there is still no limit.

Something like this has definitely crossed my mind, though it's not quite the same. All of us like to be associated with and promote brands that we believe in. Before, I would have been ecstatic to drive around in an R1T and promote the brand and what it stands for. Now - I do wonder if I would have some small sense of shame or embarrassment if I follow through and make the purchase. I've made many bad investment decisions over the years, but I don't usually go and tell everyone about them. Driving around an R1T for the next couple of years might feel a bit like proclaiming to the world "I got bait and switched" everywhere I go.

I literally saw the R1T for the first time in person 5 hours before "the email" and subsequent burning of the forums. What a roller coaster...
