I'm just still not sure about the V6 and the sound of that engine. How is the instant torque? is there lag?

I configured this online for $66,610 as a good desert adventure vehicle for up to 5 people. It even has surround view, SiriusXM, HomeLink, and CarPlay! It‘s almost amazing how many stations support “recharging” it and how quickly it goes from nearly 0% to 100% with no long-term ill-effects!

Wow, before seeing this thread/posts, I just said this in the Poll-thread about order cancellations

Contemplating what other direction you can go if you're going to spend $90-100K on a vehicle? I don't mean what other vehicles can you get at or near that same price range, ICE or EV.

I'm talking about a complete re-think of my next move into adventuring. I'm definitely drawn to the Rivian for its offroad prowess and the on-road dynamics are just icing on the cake. But this kind of money / budget affords a wealth (pun-intended) of alternatives. What could you do getting say a new hybrid Toyota Tundra (R1T sub) or same drivetrain coming soon in the Sequoia for R1S people. Buying either of those in the mid-high trim levels for around $70-75K and then investing $15-20K in upgrades and gear (or a toy-hauler and toy) leads to some appealing consideration of it.

Just bought my better half a 2022 Cayenne base with full kit for less than the new DP Rivian price.

It's replacing her 2016 Cayenne GTS and she is thrilled.

Bonus it was not on the transport ship Felicity Ace. Pun intended.

Instant torque???? It’s a ICE truck not EV.
Two turbos, good amount of torque not electric fast.
Much roomier than R1T (did test drive and checked it twice during first mile event and once again a couple weeks ago in Venice). R1T is cramped in comparison.
TRX vs Raptor…more powerful engine in TRX, horrific mpg (~8/9mpg) same I terror tech as my former Rubicon. Permanent 4wd. Raptor uses much less gas, is more nimble.Went with Raptor for better off-road prowess (even though I initially ordered a TRX - between horrendous gas consumption and all the issues I cancelled my order).
I don’t think you can compare them in the end. I would not switch to the TRX now (bad mpg, too tall, even wider than Raptor).
it’s gonna be your call. There’s the ugly Tundra too.

Seriously, its not fair to compare this to the R1S given the size and power differences, but it should be close to the same capability off road. I could get the price even lower by skipping the ($710) green body + ($1,000) white contrasting roof, but the cost is (am I really going to say this?) so low, why not go for the colors I want? Oh, I intentionally skipped the sunroof (choice of opening glass panoramic or fabric-type) to avoid the solar gain (desert) and potential rattles (off-road).

I’m keeping this old thing and buying some accessories. I bought it for less than a down payment on an R1S, and its cost to own each year are just 1-2 R1S payments.

I’ll also be keeping my half-ton truck.
In 3 years time I’ll see what the 2025 Lightning and the SUV segment looks like.

It’s a fine comparison. The 110 Defender, which is closer in size to the R1S, actually starts cheaper than the 90.

I’ve spec’d a 90 and 110 more times than I care to admit right now. I really like the idea of a front bench for my small family and having all that space in the back for serious trips.
