Which cargo covers fit the R2 well for a high-shedding dog?

I have a GSP and a baby on the way and I chose the R2 because of the ability to harness the dog in the cargo area with the rear glass down and want to make sure I keep the cargo area protected since he's a shedder and not wanting to put both the baby and the dog in the rear seats together.

I wasn't able to find another thread on this, so I apologize if this is a double up.

You may want to consider restraining the dog in such a way that it cannot fly into the back seat area in a collision, which may mean a crate instead of a tether (which helps corral the shedding, too). Even a small dog can become a lethal projectile flying around your car in an accident.

While driving with the glass down sounds good if you have a shedder then all you will do is bring all the fur into the car. It’s also dangerous not to have the dog in a crate. As the other person said, the dog can become a projectile and land on top of not only you, but also on top of the baby. i’ve tried several crates in the back of the R2 and the only issue I ever had was the collapsible 48 x 27 high they won’t fit. The 27 inch is just too tall and there’s nowhere to put it to make it actually fit. Just like you need your baby strapped into the seat so it can’t go flying It is the same for a dog.
Also with the window wide open in the back, should you hit something? The dog can actually fly right out of the back window Just some things to think about

This is a decent size crate my German Shepherd fits in just fine. Also other views. The last one is the 28” high crate. Due to the shape of the ceiling it won’t work.

You've broken an unofficial forum rule. Thou shalt not mention a dog without posting a picture of said dog. (Especially a GSP). We have two GSPs. For your sanity, I hope yours is 4 or older when you have a baby on the way Our younger one just turned 4 and her insanity meter has finally calmed down...

There's one product on the market that stands out as the absolute best, IMO, but they don't yet list the R2 model on their site. If you can afford to wait, I suggest reaching out to ask them the timeline for releasing an R2 version. On the contacts page, there's a form to ask about a vehicle that doesn't yet show up. They apparently 3D scan the vehicles before making custom fit liners. I've used them for three of my last SUVs/Wagons, but now that I have a truck, the best back seat cover is made by Ruff Liners and that product has been great for my R1T.

He is 6 years old. Hates being in the car and likes his head out the window so we’ve been using a body harness with a seat belt connection. I know people are going to frown on this, but living in Los Angeles with the average driving speed of 15mph and him being in the car maybe one time each week with an average driving distance of under 10 miles, I’ve justified not crating him. I will look into an impact crate or one that fits the trunk though for the R2 as I do agree about the crate for safety.

i found there are quite a few impact crates fit. The one pictured is not. Gunner is the best in my opinion. That’s what all of our world class trainers use when going to Europe and anywhere USA. I have a Tuffland. It needs metal doors to be fully crash resistant.

I had the LinerX seatback and cargo liner for my Model Y and it still looks new. There's still some carpeted area that caught a lot of hair and grime though. Canvasback may eventually make a set, which covers everything and looks great.

That being said, I'm big into crash-tested dog crates. I'm still waiting, but I ordered the Thule Allax Double L for my 85lbs Swiss Shepherd. There's also variocage which has good crash tested crates too.

I love my "Ruffliner Backseat Extenders" on my R1T, but my last 3-4 SUVs have all had CanvasBack covers; their fit is far ahead of the competition because they laser scan and make them unique for each vehicle. Their Velcro outline is extensive, and they cover everything perfectly without blocking function. They have some generic-fit backseat covers, but Rufliner's is a bit better for seat covers. The downside of Canvasback is that they haven't released the R2 fit yet, but someone else on this forum reported that the factory was looking to borrow an R2 to test-fit or scan.
