you just made the case for getting forest green. Do it. You can buy any old car in silver. But there are not many dark green options.
I want it, no question. But there are certain things about Silver I am just not willing to give up.

Silver, even when dirty, looks clean is the biggest one. It hides scratches, chips, nicks, really well.

Things could change inbetween now and when I finally get a guide. I also really like the Red Canyon, but I want to see one.

I’m in on silver for the same reasons. I had a black truck for a year and it almost drove me (more) insane…o_O

Dark green metallic, in my considerable experience, doesnt show dirt or damage as readily as black or a lighter colour.

if you really want to hide dirt and scratches, el cap granite would be the way to go. Very nice dark silver with a bit of blue in it.

but if I was picking it would be between FG and red. But red is to conspicuous.

I like the ElCap as well, but again, I want to see one! I have seen/taken a pic of every color Rivian offers EXCEPT Canyon Red, and ElCap.

I think the old "silver/gray hides dust/scratches better" thing is overblown.

It's really more that black is horrible to maintain. Most other colors, especially anything metallic, hold up just fine and the difference is negligible and not worth consideration. This is especially true if you apply even just a ceramic coating, which makes all non-black colors super easy and simple to keep clean.

I received the e-mail and my $1k refund as well after cancelling. I also received the “yes, restore my preorder” e-mail and clicked on the link to restore my previous order.

Not overblown, it's for real!

Bought my brand spanking new Silver Honda CRV in 2003, used it as a daily work driver for 9 yrs- 130K miles and then turned it over to my wife to use for another 5yrs. When we sold it had 150K mi on it and was 14 years old. Never garaged or even a drop of touch up paint added and only waxed maybe 5 or 6 times over 14yrs and the paint still looked great.. from a distance. If you walked up close, you saw lots of chips and scratches, but from more than 10ft away the paint still looked fresh. In contrast, I had to have the front end of my white Plug-in-Prius sprayed after just 30K mi/2yrs of use on those same roads with that same work commute in order to sell it. Who is the genius at Toyota that came up with the idea of using black electroplate/primer on a white car? Same for my 2017 red Bolt.. had it for 3 yrs/45K mi and the nose and hood needed sand down/re-spray before sale because of the numerous chips from my daily commute battle with the infamous Long Island Expressway that eats paint and windshields for breakfast.

Here's the Silver Secret (TM)... the electroplate (modern OEM version of primer coat) is close enough to the silver paint that it hardly shows when rocks chip the silver top coat off. So, unlike white which is the absolute worst for rock chips and black which is the worst for dust and scratches/swirls.. Silver is the king of coverups!

If my job still required me to drive 15K mi/yr on the LIE.. I'd 100% go with silver again, but now that I drive only 2K mi/yr I can go with a more adventurous color like Forest Green.

Most cars have black e coat. Unless they’re galvanized, in which case, silver because zinc.

Rivian as we know uses dark greenish coat.

Which is why Forest Green is the superior color choice IMO :)

Check my online account daily.... still sitting there with crappy "new pricing" that doesn't apply to it, and my second order for R1S (in January) is still absent from spontaneous cancellation. I know Rivian's rolling out the roll-backs but come on! I swear Rivian handles electronic comms like doing letters with a typewriter. :headbang:

Like what?
? ?
I have owned many cars and Silver was the one that looked like new for over a decade of ownership with minimal washing.

Silver does better with UV.

Touch up is easier when it gets old.

On looks (Subjective):

Less expensive colors simply look more beautiful ;)

Silver goes better with many wheel options,

Goes better with hooks and skid plate. It has less contrast with front light which makes the light bar more tolerable fore me.

Goes better with rear bumper.

Silver can reflect the surrounding colors better. It means you never get board; you can feel like you have a new vehicle based on where you park.
