PIN to Drive?

Unfortunately a $60K+ late model Ford pickup was stolen right out of the driveway five houses down the road from us this morning at 5:30am. I also have video of the punks casing every driveway up and down the street, including mine, looking for unlocked vehicles half an hour earlier at 5am. Scary stuff...

Anyway, it got me thinking that the Tesla feature on our Model 3 "PIN To Drive" is an excellent option to have activated because even with the 2-man crews using relay boxes reading the key fobs inside your front door and relaying it to the fob emulator near the car, even if they get in the Tesla.. without the PIN the Tesla is still immobilized.

My point... does Rivian currently have a "PIN to Drive" feature?

For now, I put all our fobs (including our spares) in a all metal cookie tin till a nicer "Faraday Box" arrives in a day or two.

was just about to type this. Also reduces the drain from the vehicles constantly pinging the fob if they are in close range (that was my issue, in the garage with the keys near the vehicle).

I just sent a suggestion to Rivian "please add PIN To Drive" ASAP please!

I use a Farady box for all my car keys. I also deleted Phone as a Key for my Navigator because my phone was too close to it during the night.

I have PIN to drive on the Model S. I don't use it at home, but it is an option when traveling.

Amen to this. A performance limited mode might persuade me to let my teen drive it occasionally, but only with me in the passenger seat.

This is a major reason I do not use valet services.

That and I hate letting people I do not know inside my car. So many stories like this and things going missing.

How about a "report my car as stolen" button in the app that disables the vehicle, locks the doors, sounds the horn repeatedly, and uses the pedestrian warning speaker to announce "This vehicle has been reported stolen. Please arrest the current occupants".

And once self driving cars are a thing, the car can drive itself (and the thief) to the nearest police station.

Got a reply from Rivian last night about adding "PIN to Drive" feature:

Currently, we don’t have that particular feature, although the wonder of Over-The-Air Updates really does allow new features to be delivered easily to vehicles on the road. I’ve noted the “pin to start” like feature request per your feedback. I think that is a great idea!

FWIW, my guide asked me yesterday to set up a PIN for remote unlocking by Rivian if I accidently lock myself out with the keys inside.

I asked about this as well and was told no. But I agree 100% I LOVE the PIN to Drive feature in my MX. At first I was like this is stupid, not I'm in the "This is stupid NOT to have"

Might have to see if I can jump on the that feature request.
