Good afternoon everyone.

If this was already asked, I apologize but what are the limitations on aftermarket wheels and tires? With a 4 motor drive, do you need very specific wheels or tires, or can you get a wide range of aftermarket? Obviously, the aftermarket will give you a wider range of styles and usually at a cheaper price.

Thanks

So dumb questions (showing my ignorance on the subject)

I am getting the standard included 21" roads... if i wanted a beefier look, could I use just about any tire that fit the included rims?

No worries. I had the same question...came here to get the answer. I unfortunately added the spare when I found this out. To my knowledge there is only the pirelli all season for the 21 on the market currently. Pirelli custom made this size for rivian. Do a search on tirerack.com. there is only the pirelli that comes up for 21

You could probsbly find a tire of the same overall diameter as the 20” ATs

The bolt pattern is unique, so there are not aftermarket wheels currently available. (EDIT: Thanks to Akay07, I understand it’s not the bolt pattern, but the offset: “+48 due to the large calipers.” He goes on to say, “With the offset, bolt pattern, wheel diameter, wheel width, and weight limits, there are none.”)

The 21 inch wheels are a weird size. If you blow one you’ll have one option. The pirelli. God knows how you’ll get them in a pinch.

For that reason people on these forums have recommended the 20’s or 22’s. These are common sizes.

The 20 inch Rivian wheels are forged. This makes them super strong. Also you’ll have more rubber in the tire, which will help with ride comfort and off-roading capability.

For range the 20’s take a 10% hit and the 22’s a 4-5% hit.

You can put off road tires on the 22” rims, but you’ll have less sidewall than you might like.

The Rivian 20” wheels are pretty quiet for being all terrains. They are three snowflake rated, so solid in snow.

People say that if you get the 22’s you should spring for snow tires, even though they are technically “all season.”

The 22” wheels get you 0-60 in 3 seconds. The 20” wheels get you there in a slovenly 3.1 seconds.

If you buy aftermarket tires you need to match the load rating, since the truck weighs 7,000 pounds. The speed rating too, ideally.

Now you know everything I know about the Rivian tires and wheels. There are a number of other helpful threads on this site. One even includes a grid of all the aftermarket tires currently available and useable for the Rivian

Thanks for that. Very informative. I may spring for the 20"s. was hoping to take the $1800 cost and simply put beefier tires on my 21"s but the 20's sound like a good option.

FWIW I’m going with the 20” ones as it is a common size on many pickups, and there’s more sidewall. Terrible roads here. Ball joint capital of Canada

I remember reading that the bolt pattern on the Rivian was 5x5.5. If that is accurate then there should be aftermarket wheels available to fit. 5x5.5 is a very common bolt pattern. It will be a matter of identifying a set of wheels with the appropriate offset and weight rating that are 5x5.5 bolt pattern. I would say that there are certainly aftermarket wheels that should fit.

Yes you are correct. But the offset is +48 due to the large calipers. With the offset, bolt pattern, wheel diamter wheel width, and weight limits, there are none. I have spent the last several days searching those specs.

Wonder if we will be able to buy wheels and tires from Rivian directly?

Do we know if all three versions of the 20" rim are forged?
