The bolt pattern is unique, so there are not aftermarket wheels currently available. (EDIT: Thanks to Akay07, I understand it’s not the bolt pattern, but the offset: “+48 due to the large calipers.” He goes on to say, “With the offset, bolt pattern, wheel diameter, wheel width, and weight limits, there are none.”)

The 21 inch wheels are a weird size. If you blow one you’ll have one option. The pirelli. God knows how you’ll get them in a pinch.

For that reason people on these forums have recommended the 20’s or 22’s. These are common sizes.

The 20 inch Rivian wheels are forged. This makes them super strong. Also you’ll have more rubber in the tire, which will help with ride comfort and off-roading capability.

For range the 20’s take a 10% hit and the 22’s a 4-5% hit.

You can put off road tires on the 22” rims, but you’ll have less sidewall than you might like.

The Rivian 20” wheels are pretty quiet for being all terrains. They are three snowflake rated, so solid in snow.

People say that if you get the 22’s you should spring for snow tires, even though they are technically “all season.”

The 22” wheels get you 0-60 in 3 seconds. The 20” wheels get you there in a slovenly 3.1 seconds.

If you buy aftermarket tires you need to match the load rating, since the truck weighs 7,000 pounds. The speed rating too, ideally.

Now you know everything I know about the Rivian tires and wheels. There are a number of other helpful threads on this site. One even includes a grid of all the aftermarket tires currently available and useable for the Rivian
This is great info--thanks. I did not realize 21" tires are available only through Pirelli. I don't like being pigeon holed into one brand when replacements are needed. Looks like the 20" AT are the way to go.

Glad I saw this thread; I figured I’d just get the 21s it comes with and then separately buy a set of 20” with all terrains for offroad/winter for around the same cost as the upgrade. Maybe I’ll just go for the AT 20 factory package

Yes you are correct. But the offset is +48 due to the large calipers. With the offset, bolt pattern, wheel diamter wheel width, and weight limits, there are none. I have spent the last several days searching those specs.
While you might not expect to find exact Rivian spec'd wheels available... you can always go with less offset and push the wheels out further to clear. Yes you may get the tires into the fenders during full articulation, but if you want aftermarket wheels there is always a way to make it happen.

The offset really isn’t a function of the caliper it’s where the barrel is going to be centered in the wheel well. Too much offset and you may rub the inside on the suspension or steering at full articulation. Too little (or negative) offset and your steering center will not be in the right part of the contact patch or the outside edge of the tire may touch the fender. Spoke design will dictate if it clears the caliper (but that doesn’t exactly show up in the wheel specs). Someone will have to have to experiment a little to see what fits.

Hopefully not a stupid question.... if you get the 20" and you order the full size spare, it is the exact same tire and rim as your other 4?

Offset and backspacing are both important WRT fitting over brakes.

yes full size spare is identical wheel and tire. Can do a 5 wheel rotation this way. So your tires will last 20% longer!

R1S on order
My wife decided she wanted the 22” wheels for the R1S, despite the tires costing $400+.

Started looking into aftermarket tires in the 275/50R22 size, and the only ones I can find in the correct load rating are the General Grabber HTS 60 and a Nokian snow tire.

So many great premium SUV tires are only available in a 111 load rating.

So is everyone with 22s just sticking with the Pirellis? Or going with 111 rated tires? (which FWIW are rated to 9,612 lbs total for 4).

If 111 is enough for each axle’s gross rating, you’re golden.

I disagree as loads aren't static. Diving into a corner under braking will put a LOT of load on that front outer tire. Rivian was chasing max range on these vehicles, and if they could've gotten away with a much lighter tire, they assuredly would've done so.

It’ll be fiiine. 111 is only 4 less than 115

I do wonder what the factor of safety on the tires / load ratings is. If it’s 2x-3x, it would be much different than 1.2x.

With an R1S I will need to buy a full size spare wheel+tire in addition to the Rivian compact spare kit. Since it sounds like this isn’t going to be available through Rivian any time soon, Is there anything out there which will come close enough to fitting to permit at least a limp to cell coverage journey? I’d settle for a utility wheel (aesthetics don’t count so the wheel could be black steel, fluorescent pink alloy, or somewhere in between) and the tire needs to be capable of supporting the vehicle and close enough in rolling diameter to maintain clearance. I always keep my vehicles on stock wheels so this is uncharted territory for me.
