The other day I drove past a mule parked so of course I stopped to check it out. It appeared to be a production-like le/adv ocean coast interior and the truck clearly had seen heavy usage:
  • The wood paneling looked very faded, very dry/cracking, and almost peeling in places. Night & day in color and finish compared to what I drove at a first mile event. The photo I took doesn't do it justice given the limited angle due to glare, but if you zoom in you can get a sense of what I'm referring to. My big concern is that the wood interior is not going to last very long without dedicated attention/upkeep. How are folks thinking about keeping this looking fresh?
  • I have seen lots of concerns on this forum that the Ocean Coast leather will get extra dirty / have color bleed / etc. I didn't see any of that. The seats definitely looked extensively used, but the color was essentially the same I saw on display at a first mile event.

I don't know why anyone would be worried about the seats. They're vinyl. They will be fine - super easy to clean and very durable.

The wood, I don't know except to say that I will definitely be getting a good quality UV-blocking tint on the front windows and windshield.

All I see is how much better the OC looks than black so much more contrast I love the OC interior. Did you get any other shots showing the wear or cracking you are talking about?

Still lovin the OC interior! Seems to look on par if not better than expected considering how it appears to be cared for. Thanks for posting!

I have Ocean Coast interior in my config currently because we regret getting the dark interior in our Model Y. The ridiculously dark tint on the roof glass makes for a very dark cabin. I personally think the OC wood finish is terrible, and not sure how it was selected for a vehicle that's supposed to look modern, but whatever, it's worth dealing with to get the light headliner and seats. If it's possible to refinish the wood after delivery, I will pay pretty much anything.

Keep in mind that the wood is open pore and comes with quite a bit of texture straight off the factory floor.

Anyone wish Rivian had offered a saddle-colored interior with the Forest edge or OC stained wood? Saddle would be awesome.
I love the wood stain in forest edge, but the green seats remind me of the 1974 Ford Torino station wagon my parents had when I was a kid (or an avocado colored appliance from the 1970s).

Explore spec gives you a light colored headliner if you want.

This is a brown furniture wax that is used for darker woods like walnut. It will slightly darken an Ash wood.

Over the years, I got really good at cleaning cars, for me this will be no problem for me to take care of the OC. Since they are white, it will be more of up keep but if you love it, will take care of it.

I can't see the degredation of the wood in the pictures.

My take away from the pictures is that the ocean coast seats look much more gray and much less white than other pictures suggest.

Yes. Rivian chose the green interior to replace the typical mid-brown available in pickups and large American SUVs. I don't mind the green, but I'm not sure how Ii would feel about the color long term.

If that's how they are supposed to look, then they look "dirty" imo. No thanks. Black Mountain, FTW.

I see no issues with the food. I've had vehicles with real wood trim and 4 years into ownership they're always perfect (longest I've kept one, thus far) so I don't have any concerns about this, absent actual evidence of problems.

The wood in the vehicle should age significantly better than wood you might leave out on your deck or patio. I would be surprised if it required any treatment to stay in good condition after 10 years.

If anything, I think the BM wood will take the most age-related wear. I could see some UV-based lightening of the wood over 10 years, depending on the amount of anti-UV on the windows/windshield/roof.
