Anyone sticking with R1T Explore Package?

I ordered a lightly optioned Explore for $72.5 and I don't plan on switching.

The only desirable option I want on the Adventure trim is the Gear Guard video security feature. Sentry Mode on our Tesla Model Y is pretty cool feature.

Explore preorder here and agree with OP and others. Definitely wondering if they will ever make explore since at this point it does not appear to exist beyond a graphic on the configuration page. I wouldn't be surprised if they scrap it next year and offer a software locked Adventure trim to preorder holders. If I had known how delayed things would be I would've gone for LE but given the circumstances I plan to ride it out.

If this story is correct and Rivian plans on just 15k R1 vehicles this year, I wouldn't expect to see Explore models until possibly 2024+. Especially with a 80k+ preorder list and a desperate need to generate revenue.

I don't think it's a zero sum game with Explore vs Adventure and I don't expect them to fill all Adventure orders before starting Explore builds. Theoretically, they can make both trim levels at the same time, but I wouldn't expect that to happen within the first 12-18 months of production, based on what Rivian has said. Even when they spool up Explore next year ?, I don't expect them to produce at the rate of Adventure models, if Explore is the minority in demand. Also noteworthy: the Explore, quad-motor, large pack R1T is not an entry-level model anymore.

This all personal conjecture based on my experience with managing dealership inventory profiles from multiple manufacturers. We're all really in wait-and-see mode.

I'm not 100% positive on this, so don't take it as a complete guarantee, but from what I have seen recently, most of the GearGuard system (I think including video) is included in Explore.

The trim/package comparison on the Rivian website only identifies the Gear Guard cable as a feature of upgrading to Adventure.

I have asked CS about this, and they say that it isn't just limited to the cable, it is Gear Guard video monitoring as a whole that is limited to LE/Adventure.

I will most likely stay the course with my 2/21 Explore configuration.

Some positives for Explore reservation holders include;

-Time for Rivian to fine tune their assembly process
-QC should improve with experience
-A possibility that a heat pump will be validated, sourced and installed on 2023 models
-2023 may offer additional color choices
-Explore owners should be able to skip first model year issues that are so common with new vehicles

For what it’s worth, I asked CS earlier last week and the rep said gear guard comes on all R1 vehicles, regardless of trim.

I am going to patient and stick to my 2023 Explore. I’d rather skip the ventilates seats, premium sound system, etc. and save nearly $5k. The exteriors are identical.

I honestly prefer the non-wood interior finish. Wood is impossible to fix. If it gets dented, scratched, etc. that's it.

Interior accents are cool but completely superfluous. The ventilated seats would be neat, but I can't justify $5k for them when preconditioning the cabin is an option. And while the sound system would be really cool -- I don't think I'm the target audience. I'm primarily a hip-hop dude and as long as it's punchy enough, I'm good. I'm in an ID4 now and with the bass EQ up a bit, I think it's completely fine. And I figure it has to be better than what's in my ID4.

I'm only paying the extra $5K for the music system. I agree that the extra interior details are not for me. I don't particularly care for the wood implementation, especially on the steering wheel.

I do like the simpler wood in my Tesla.

But overall I do think that Rivian overall has made many excellent design choices.

As a whole, they're definitely my favorite looking car of all time. And like I said, I do like the yellow accents, but they're not necessary and just not worth it. I want the improved sound, but again, I just can't justify $5K just for the sound. Keeping it sub $80,000 is important to me (the sticker price finally hit me this weekend...) and so Large pack with Dual Motor/Explore package is perfect for me. I'm not expecting the 2024 target date, and am anticipating a 2025 ship date. Which is fine. Gives me a year to add more to the down payment.

This would make sense, it sounded like besides the physical cable Gear Guard is primarily using the same standard camera system and sensors. So its software that's enabled on the Launch and Adventure trims and disabled on Explore.

I don’t think it’s going to be disabled. I think you’ll just be responsible for getting the cable if that’s what you want.

If I understand it correctly BOTH trim levels comes with the Gear Guard video feature but only the Adventure trim comes with locking cable.
