Just got an email from rivian with this statement:

You’ve successfully updated your Rivian preorder to R1T Adventure Package with a Large pack battery.

As one of our earliest preorder holders, this combination of equipment package and battery pack will move your estimated delivery window into 2022.

In the coming months, we’ll share your updated delivery window estimate in your Account Page. No further action is needed on your end, and if you’d like to make additional changes to your configuration, please contact the Customer Engagement Center.

We appreciate your loyalty as an
early Rivian preorder holder and look forward to getting you behind the wheel of your R1T as soon as possible.

Thank you again for being on this journey with us.

Thanks for the update. Will be curious to see where your 2022 window ends up. Since I'm a March 2020 preorder, I'm still operating under the assumption changing my max to a large pack will NOT get me a truck in 2022. If you get a 4th quarter window, my assumption will be all but confirmed. I think the 18 and 19 preorders should move ahead of all later preorders for all of 2022, but they'll probably just dump you into the 4th quarter "we hope we figure out how to manufacture at scale by then" window. Good luck to you getting your truck sooner. Fingers crossed for you.

It will be awhile before they call me. But when they do, and I ask how much weight it adds, and then they tell me 500 lbs, I may switch.

IIRC, Car and Driver claimed 1755 lbs for the Large pack, which is supposedly 9 modules. I've heard that the Max pack is either 11 or 12 modules, so you can assume a weight gain of 390-585 lbs plus some additional mounting hardware.

Has anyone gotten the call yet? I put down my deposit and 2019. I feel like I'm owed the option to pick a Launch Edition. Or at the very least get the wheel upgrade offered in the Launch Edition. If I would have been told this was the plan I would have made that choice when I had the chance.
Ordered mid 2019: No calls yet of any kind.

I have previously asked Rivian questions about the Max Pack R1T to which they say they have no information yet. What is the Max Pack tow rating going to be? Possibly 800-1000 lbs? Or are they re-certifying the Max Pack to a higher GVWR to raise the Payload for the Max Pack? Only time will tell as Rivian won't say or don't know at this time.

I just chatted with customer service. For those of us who switched from max pack to large pack we won't be getting a call in May to talk about our configuration as stated in the email blast that went out earlier this week. We will be contacted at some point in the summer.

You'll get a better built vehicle.

My thinking is in line with yours. I'm a Feb 2019 preorder and I purposefully passed on LE bc we were told little to no delay for the max pack. If I had been told it would be a year+, I never would have selected max. If they give me the LE pricing I'd be tempted to swap, if not, I'll probably just wait and if something better comes along (I don't think it will), I'll jump on it.
Right There with you guys. April 2019 pre order. Went max pack and feel shorted about not being able to switch to a launch edition. I have contacted CS many times and have been told on numerous occasions now that it is not possible to get an LE. Have even asked about grabbing an LE if someone delays their reservation or does not complete the purchase process and all they ever do is say that they will note it on my account.....Pretty frustrating.

I'm pretty convinced the max pack will never happen, it's either going to be outright cancelled or just indefinitely delayed.

Rivian has published almost no information about it, we haven't seen any test mules running around, we know there's a battery shortage that RJ himself is on record as stating will only get worse, so there's not much incentive for them to move fewer units with an extremely scarce component (especially at preorder pricing, which I'm sure especially hurts with a larger battery.)

They mention an 800V battery development program in the earnings report. I assume that’s regarding the max pack. Although maybe not

The Oct-Dec 2022 delivery window thread has some interesting updates. A Sep 21 preorder got his guide assigned last week. Originally ordered a max pack and in a follow up reply in that thread says he switched to the large pack Jan 5th. A couple of other Oct-Dec preorders getting guides assigned too, and most have order dates well after mine. Although none of them seem to have been told they can expect a vehicle sooner than their current Oct-Dec window, it sure seems like a guide assignment would suggest they will.
I was pretty sure my Mar 2020 preorder had close to a 0% chance of a 2022 delivery if I changed from a max to a large pack, so I never changed it. Now I'm really not sure what to do. My main reasons for needing a max pack when I ordered in 2020 have changed. I'm also on vacation in San Diego this week visiting friends, so naturally wanted to cruise by the Miramar SC to "take a peek". First truck in the lot yesterday was "my" El Cap Granite with BM on 20" ATs. I am leaning very heavily towards switching to a large pack and crossing my fingers for a 2022 delivery. But hearing there are still 18-19 preorder holders that have already switched and still hearing nothing makes be think the Sep 21 preorder holder already getting a guide was just another Rivian random event based on a monkey throwing things at a map of the U.S.
I will probably switch to a large pack. If those that switched from a max to large pack don't hear anything substantive in the next few months about 2022 delivery windows, then I would probably switch back to a max pack. They are making this decision way harder than it needs to be for sure.

I think a better strategy would be to change to large and discuss max pack when you get guide contact. If you procrastinate and you won't be in the queue with the large pack reservation holders similar to your configuration and date.

I am in the same boat as you only a little earlier. 1/4/20 order Max Pack, RB, BM, 21" AP. I chatted with CS and they told me that only 2018,2019 order holders can switch without risking their place in line. Missed it by 4 days. But I want the Max pack and I want them fix all the bugs the lucky ones are figuring out. I live in San Diego and go by the Miramar SC whenever I can. It is a form of self-torture, but it is close to Ballast Point and Cutwater Distilling so there is a small consolation.
