Lol, the day after I put it in vehicle shipping mode to test longer vampire drain while I'm on duty... Cool.

Well, I'll get a Vehicle Shipping 72 hour test pre and post 2022.15 and toss that in the other thread.
Still counts

Very impressed with their response. I am sure when I get mine, it will be a much more mature vehicle (I know I won't be).
New...less severe problems hopefully

I know this isn't a place for feature requests, but here is a feature request:

If all rear ultrasonic sensors show something nearby, i.e. a WALL, do not automatically release the tailgate drop from key fob or inside the vehicle, only from the button at the rear. Make it optional too, perhaps.

Why?

Because I was fidgeting with my key fob the other day and realized that dropping the tailgate into a rough cinder block wall would result in a less than ideal interaction with the truck's paint.

Ultrasonic sensors only work by detecting relative motion and only work when traveling above 0.12mph.

Edit: as pointed out by @rhuber, this appears to be a software implementation limit.

That's weird, since I have used the input of the ultrasonics on the CAN bus of my Tesla to do a bunch of fun stuff with car hacking. Also they work by sending out active high frequency sound and have nothing to do with relative motion. But what do I know?

Edit: and fwiw they have flaws like problems detecting things within a dead zone as you get extremely close. The ones on a tesla are almost useless at distances less than 6 inches. But they would absolutely work for this.

Edit2: and I just realized you're probably confusing ultrasonic with mmwave radar, which has to filter stationary objects for things like adaptive cruise control and def isn't useful here.

Just going off the manual:

"Park Assist will not chime when the vehicle is traveling at a speed less than 0.12 mph (0.2 km/h).

If the vehicle remains stationary for approximately 10 seconds, the side warnings will go away."

Ah yeah. That's just a software implementation detail. It does this so that it doesn't constantly scream at you if you are very close to something but the vehicle isn't moving. The sensor data is still there and usable.

Regardless, I have no idea where to make this request and it isn't _that_ important, but the first time it saves even one owner a scratched tailgate, it will have been worth it. maybe. probably.

The sensors also trigger when backing up to a curb. I don't want the tailgate to be sealed shut just because there's a low-height obstacle like a curb or parking island behind the vehicle.

Fair enough and def not advocating sealed shut. I just want mine to require me to be standing next to the tailgate, pressing the button on the truck, to release it. I park backed up to a wall every single day and enough people wanna play with the truck that I fear this is inevitable when someone hits the on screen button or is playing with the fob.

A "left over" from the tailgate many of us wish Rivian was able to implement? Maybe.......

I hope they keep this level of detail in their release notes forever. I love the honesty of pointing at that there were issues and that they were fixed.
The detail is great. I just hope they continue to make updates for years to come, unlike some of the manufacturers who seem to stop making updates as soon as the next model comes out.

Apparently his name at Rivian is Cando. Don't ask me what the significance is....
It’s okay. Rivian can be wrong. Once the dog is home, we get to name him. ?

Gary will never die
Is there a gallery of Gary / Cando art?
The ASCII art looks like there's some internal effort gone into this character (I hope they eventually do something "Monsters, Inc." quality.)
