I am configured for the 22" Sport Black for $3500 - absolutely love the black wheel look (especially on the 22" wheels) with my FG color choice and will be minor off-roading less than 5%. The price is stiff though, and wondering if anyone changed there 21"s?

Might even consider the 22" Sport Bright for $1800,depending on cost to powder coat (well) to black...

I am considering doing it to the 21’s I have configured. I haven’t done it yet, though.

I have 21's I posted but not with powder coating... I had been debating but think i like them better they way they are without the inserts and with a center cap. As I look at them more I think they would lose some impact if they were all black and kind of blend in.

I agree. Your trucks looks great!

I am curious, what would you estimate is the range loss without the aero inserts?

My guess is near zero impact on day-to-day driving, and very small over a long distance. Incorrect tire inflation likely has bigger impact. If/when I get the R1T I would pull the inserts and only considering putting them back on for long distance travel.

That's my plan for the R1S. I want maximum range, but I think the 21s without the covers is probably pretty close. I'd be shocked if they add 10 miles of range.

At least they seem really easy to pop on-and-off (excluding the center hole).

These are black powder coated 21’s. Kinda Fugly IMO, and you are married to hardly any tire choices at 21”.

Are these yours or someone else's? Curious what they cost to powder coat. The 22" black look better, no doubt, but not sure $3500 better.

No these were spotted like 1-2 years ago on a test mule. I heard like $800-1000 to powder coat 4.

It's because it's all black. For a look closer to the 22 darks you'll want a "black chrome" coat, which is essentially like a tint. The black parts of the wheel will remain black, and the bright parts will essentially be darkened to give you a two-tone look. Tire choice is not a big concern for me. Even with the 20" wheels, the tire choice is limited for such a heavy, high-torque vehicle. The R1 design just doesn't allow for a lot of tire and wheel choices.

Seems like all the "cool kids" are choosing the 20" wheels. However, the R1 will be my family's daily driver so I'm going with the 21" wheels for the extra 10-15% of mileage. Lots of folks here are dismissing that 10-15% efficiency, but it adds up and can be significant over the lifetime of your R1. The 21" wheels and stock tires will save me thousands of dollars in charging costs.

I'll eventually get a set of 20" wheels and AT tires for the occasional off-roading adventures. Unlike tires, I can swap wheels at home when needed.

Interesting. Are you attempting to do the wheels yourself with Hyperdip?
