These are just my "Opinions"
  1. Kind of like trying to pick which kid you like more. Both have their Pro's and Con's
  2. Ride - Lighting. Actually it's not that close from a comfort basis
  3. Ride - R1T. Actually it's not that close from a Sporty/Handling basis/feel
  4. Interior - Lightning. I just like the APPLE CAR Play and XM Radio, Seats, Cup Holders, Fold Down Spot for My Laptop and more. For me the R1T might be more contemporary but it's less usable for my purposes.
  5. Exterior - R1T. Looks more futuristic
  6. Size - Personal preference.... I'd tip toward the R1T as for trailering or as someone said a "Snowplow" I don't think either is a good choice for me. But for parking and maneuverability the R1T has the edge.
  7. Frunk - Lightning. Mostly because of the lower threshold.
  8. Power Supplies - Lightning both inside and outside the cab. 230v USB, charging etc...
  9. Performance - R1T. Not even close. The Lighting is quick, but the RT1 is that and fast.
  10. Off Road - R1T. Haven't done it and probably won't ever do what some here would consider a real off road work out.
  11. Less Road Noise Wind Noise - Win-Lightning. By a fair margin, some of which might be because of the suspension on the Ford.
  12. Which one to Keep----- I'll decide over the next week or so. I was offered $118,000 for the R1T and in spite of the plusses and minuses I'm not sure I want to part with it.
So depending on the daily use and your preferences either one can be a winner, but it doesn't make the other a loser.

Congrats!

Nice to hear some real-world owner info about the Lightning.

It's got some real advantages over R1T in the Frunk, electrical, infotainment and utility departments that's for sure.

If Rivian would get their heads out of their collective asses and give us AA/CP/SXM that would go a long way to appease a great many reservation holders. It's idiotic IMO to have your infotainment system rely on cell service connectivity in an "Adventure" vehicle made for off grid... "adventures" where there is zero cell service coverage. SXM works great in all the wide open spaces across the US of A.

If only I had known how good the Lightning was going to be I would have reserved one. I would have flipped the R1T and gotten a Lightning Pro for almost nothing. The window to make $40-50k on an R1T flip is rapidly shrinking, so I may completely bail on the R1T, and get in line for a 2023 Lightning. As the economy worsens, I have a feeling that opportunities which favor the buyer will present themselves.

Thanks for the initial feedback @MNLightning -- what's the general spec of your Lightning? XLT, Lariat, or...? Extended battery?
Lariat.

Congrats!

IMHO, ALEXA has gotten dumber with more use for me. I find myself using "Hey Siri" 90% of the time versus "Alexa" And the Rivian Nav, is basically dead to me for both charging and directions.

confirming:

are you're saying the Lighting is MORE comfortable than All Purpose mode in the R1T?

are you're saying the Lighting has MORE road and wind noise? Ouch, the R1T has pretty bad wind noise as is.

I keep naively holding out hope that Rivian adds CarPlay/AA. ?

That’s backwards. The Lightning is far quieter and smoother

Well... I'm glad to hear that. I have an XLT+ that supposed to be built next week. Was planning on it being the work truck and the Rivian being my daily. Quiet and smooth are big deals for me. Might be hard to justify daily driving the R1T if the Lightning is better at both.

It’s a tough choice, I didn’t expect the Ford to be this well thought out and executed. But the R1T does and can do things the Lightning isn’t designed for. And I’ll need more seat time to decide myself. Good luck to you

Surprised that the lightning rides much better. The rivian is a good bit better than taycan comfort and Taycan Is very comfortable. Sound in mine is also basically non existent in my road trip. I’m not a huge fan of the rivian looks tbh but the lightning is not my cup of tea at all. Will be excited when Rivian’s v2g component comes out though.

It seems like often time the answer to the "this or that" question is both.

Did your dealer try to add any mark ups?

I am in the same boat and frankly surprised. I thought Rivian would be more refined in those regards.
