The service center has some clipper creeks and a yet to be opened lounge. But I think the chargers are just for serviced vehicles, and maybe employees. I don't think the foundation for the showroom has even been poured yet. I doubt either location would have a DC fast charger or RAN station. You'd be better off hitting up a DCFC on your route over hanging out at the service center.
Insights from my delivery guide 2 weeks ago was that the lounge area was for owners to use while they wait for repairs, etc. The then current Rivian thinking is that the Chicago showroom won't likely ever be a destination like the hub space in Venice, CA but it was implied that a similar hub space could be in the works for the Chicago-land area.
I think that's a bit of typical CA hubris as I can definitely imagine a hub-like location in the Northshore area being every bit as big a destination as the Venice shop. The habit of the coasts forgetting that there's a shitload of wealth concentrated in the midwest around Chicago and not just on their doorstep is annoying - spoken as someone who has worked remotely in IL for very large and notable SV companies most of his career and who sees it constantly.
I should have been more clear; my interpretation was that the Chicago showroom location not becoming a Venice-like hub was a size constraint rather than an "ignore the flyover states" attitude. You can hold just as many activities here with almost certainly just as much turnout as you see there - at least for 3 seasons of the year
I hope they do SOMETHING at least, and not just the service center.
