I was playing around with my config and if I choose FG/FE, 20" Dark AT and powered tonneau my config comes out to exactly $80,000. I am confused on the wording but is the credit only for SUV/pickups up to $80,000, or is it up to and including $80,000?

APPLICABLE LIMITATION.—For purposes of subparagraph (A), the applicable limitation for each vehicle classification is as fo1lows: PICKUP TRUCKS.—In the case of a pickup truck, $80,000.

The way I am reading that is that $80k is the limit so it should be fine if the car is configured to be exactly $80k. If not then I hope Rivian can discount my order by $1 lol
In this case, $80,000.00 would be okay as you are at the limit, $80,000.01 would put you over the limit.

I personally expect that the battery packs from Rivian and Tesla will both fail to meet the minimum requirement of 40% domestic or free trade country origin.

I would hope the majority of people considering an $80k vehicle are making over $300k joint a year. If not they may want to reconsider their priorities.
There are plenty of people living within their means not making near that much money or are retired that saved wisely that will be able to get that truck it all comes down to priorities if a person thinks they need a big house to keep up with the neighbors, eat out every meal, making big money but don't know how to save they maybe won't be able to get that truck without financing most of it. Where as someone else that lives within their means and saved some money will.

Anyone have any idea on the sources of the battery minerals & components? Are R1 vehicles even eligible for $3750 or $7500?
If they are still using Samsung, it should qualify if it comes out of Korea due to the free trade agreement.

Are there any vehicles that will qualify for the full $7,500? I don’t know actual #s but I didn’t think any battery pack raw materials came from the 20 or so free trade countries with the USA. The assembly $3,750 should be met by a few like Tesla since their packs are assembled here.

The countries are: Australia, Bahrain, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Israel, Jordan, Mexico, Morocco, Nicaragua, Oman, Panama, Peru, Singapore, and South Korea.

Retired at 56 also we don't owe anyone a cent. House and 2 cars paid for. Our joint income wasn't 1/2 of 300,000 and we have an R1T preordered. It is all about priorities.

That's a choice, but I would argue cars are some of the best assets to finance depending on the climate. You can regularly finance at 0.9, 1.9, 2.9. That's rare in almost every other asset you can finance.

However, sometimes it's a mind over matter thing. My wife hates that she has a car payment, but we financed about 30% of her car at 0.9%. I can't justify paying it off when it is less than our mortgage, and historically over the last 30 years the Dow has returned 7%.

She was opposed to tax rate hikes on individuals and corporations but in support of a minimum corporate tax so if this is just a minimum tax she may be on board.
Sure hope so - too much good stuff in the bill. Once the bill becomes law then I'm sure we can sort it all out. Until then it is all educated guesses.

Which makes AGI caps even dumber. Some guy that was making $600k+ for years and retired with a fat nest egg qualifies under the new rules, but the young guy who just got a nice pay bump to counteract our runaway inflation doesn’t.

There is the potential that no EVs currently on the market qualify for $7,500 anymore. Let’s pass it then figure out how it all works…ya good strategy, let’s not understand all of the implications but pass it on a whim because politicians told us it saves the planet.

Would love somebody with a legal degree to comment on this. My untrained eye sure thinks the PBA is binding. The guides describe them as less than binding, probably to encourage signing them, but the legalese suggests otherwise. It states on the first page in all caps that "THIS AGREEMENT CREATES A BINDING LEGAL CONTRACT". A paragraph later: "You agree to purchase the Vehicle as described in your saved configuration as of the date of this Agreement from Rivian, LLC. or its affiliate". No termination provisions for the order for me I can find. Contractually requires Rivian to sell at the prices as of the date of the agreement. They have outs from the contract but they can't terminate for convenience, only if they discontinued the configuration I've ordered. If I fail to take delivery, I'm responsible for any and all costs related to the failure to accept.

This matters to me as I'm a Max pack reservation holder who got a guide and signed a PBA a couple months ago. Would be great to know that although my truck isn't showing up until 2023 (saying a prayer) my PBA from June should grandfather me in to the old credit....
It creates a binding legal contract, but not a purchase contract.

With Rivian's return policy, I have no issue signing a purchase agreement and paying for my R1S in 2022 for delivery in 2023 if it means I am guaranteed $7,500 saving. I realize this means giving Rivian a $80K loan interest free for a year. But I can't find any $80K investment that would guarantee a $7.5K return in a year either. I seriously hope Rivian would consider doing this for any customer willing to do it.
