My last 3 Ram vehicles have been a 2015 Sport, 2018 Longhorn 4x4, and my current ride a 2020 Limited with All the bells and whistles including the Air Suspension. I really love my Limited and the ride is outstanding. I would like some comparisons if anyone traded in their late model Ram for their Brand New R1T.
Is the Rivian ride superior to the Ram, more enjoyable to drive, and do you miss your Ram and if you can do it all over again, would u do it?
Enjoy,
Tony

I love my R1T. It's a mix between a pickup and a sports sedan. That being said, If I could have a Electric version of my 2500 Limited I would buy it. The biggest benefit of the R1T is not stopping at the Diesel pump.

There are only three things I miss about my Ram 1500 ecodiesel.

1) The Sirius XM system was my favorite.
2) Running boards. I miss having running boards and so does the family.
3) Not really a Ram thing, but I miss my heavy duty Diamondback bed cover.

The suspension is difficult to compare, because the chassis structure is very different. But the Ram air suspension, I always felt body roll around sharp turns or 270 degree on-ramps. Nothing in the R1T.

I have never owned a RAM.

I bought a R1T BECAUSE it is an EV and does not spew toxic crap into the air we breath and I am less captive to big oil. Filling a tank with gasoline over and over and over while putting money into the war chest of folks who want to do us harm has always bothered me.

It is inevitable that ICEs days are numbered as it must be.

Forest Green/Forest Edge R1T on 21s
I received my R1T (21" wheels) over the weekend and presently drive a TRX, but I have also spent considerable time behind the wheel of my dad's 21 Laramie (20" sport wheels with non-air suspension). The R1T is far smoother than the Laramie, and when run in rally mode seems to be even softer than my TRX on Baja, without the insane body roll of the TRX. In sport it obviously handles far better than either Ram, but it becomes much harsher than my TRX and probably a bit harsher than the Laramie. I will say that my TRX still does better over harsher bumps due to the 35" tires, but there is also a level of mechanical harshness I note on the R1T that is mildly concerning. In the TRX I don't worry about any curb, pot-hole, speed bump, rough brick road or other obstacle, it just eats it without complaint, but in my short time the R1T seems to want to be driven more like a car than an off-road truck. I am leaning toward keeping the Rivian at this point, but they are such different beasts it really comes down to how will you use it. The biggest downside for me is the tiny backseat since I have 3 kids, but otherwise it does almost everything I want better. While I love being able drive the TRX like a tank around town, there is no terrain here in FL that I would need even close to its full capability. I bought it mainly for the Hellcat, and the R1T makes the TRX feel slow. It would make your limited feel like a snail. And beyond the speed it is really fun to drive. If I can get over how much of a pain dropping off kids in the morning will be, I will likely keep the R1T, but the best way to describe it compared to a full size truck is that the R1T feels more like a sports car (both in the way it drives and how the interior fits) with a bed on the back.

I previously owned a 2017 Ram Rebel. I loved that truck but hated the cost to fill it up. Comparing it to my R1T there is almost no body roll in the Rivian and the suspension mode adjustments really do make a difference in the feel of the truck.
The only thing I miss about the Rebel is the ability to drop the suspension remotely, but talking with the service center its on the list of updates.
If I had to choose between the two it would be an easy decision to go with the R1T. The more compact size works perfectly for me, without feeling too small, and the power of the R1T blows the Rebel out of the water.

I traded in my 2020 Ram 1500 Limited (loaded) for the R1T and have zero regrets. I loved the Ram and wouldn't have gotten rid of it for any other truck.

Size - Ram is much bigger, especially the back seat.

Ride - R1T is much smoother with lower wind noise.

Suspension - R1T is much more functional for me than the Ram. You can make the R1T feels like a sports sedan, not something the Ram is remotely capable of.

Tech - UConnect and the UI in the the Ram was very good, but the UI in the R1T is better. The map in the R1T is much faster and smoother.

Fit and Finish - R1T on par with the Ram (and the Ram was very good).

The only reason I miss the Ram is because I didn't hesitate to throw junk in the bed. The bed of the R1T is still too new treat it like a real truck.

Selling my rivian and going back to a ram 1500. I tried it for two weeks but It's just not a truck and not being able to diagnose and resolve issues myself is a bigger issue for me than I thought. I thought I would like to have a chameleon of a car that could be equal parts truck and equal parts sports car but the truth is that it's not really great at being either.

There are always compromises and I compromised too much on the truck side of things.

Traded in my 2021 Ram Laramie. It was a great a truck but I love the Rivian. Only thing I miss about the Ram is the center console and back seat space. Though the back seat space is a trade off and the Rivian is easier to handle. Plus I was pleasantly surprised how much space was back there - I can fit a baby car seat back there no problem which is what I was worried about initially (never did a first ride before I got my truck)

Great response thank you. Yep no more kids for me here in South Florida. I am holding out for the white interior when they decide to start manufacturing it. Love the Big screen in my Limited, SiriusXM and my Waze, everything else I could live without.

Thank you for the review, I have a much better perspective for my new truck coming hopefully in November/ December.

Thank you Eric, exactly the positive review I was hoping for.

I guess a big positive is with the extra dollars you could get all the bells and whistles in a 2023 Ram. Good Luck,
Tony

I am also a long time XM and Waze user, and CarPlay\Android Auto, while buggy, has been awesome on that front. Losing XM isn't that big of a deal for me, but losing Waze on the main screen is a huge concern as there isn't anywhere good to put a phone for viewing. The recessed air vents likely will prevent mounting it there, and the interior is honestly too beautiful to just slap a 3M mount to. Someone mentioned above the fit and finish of Ram being similar, and while I wouldn't disagree, I think its important to note that the quality of materials at least feels much more luxurious. The R1T has real wood throughout, as well as what I assume is brushed aluminum. As nice and luxurious as the Ram is, especially compared to the crap interiors coming from Ford/Chevy, the R1T feels like a true luxury car. While the Ram does have leather over much of the interior, there is still a lot of plastic.

On the plus side for the Rivian, the center screen blows away the Ram's. It's gigantic even compared to the rams and its gorgeous. While the Ram's is great compared to average automotive screens, The R1T's looks like a high end computer/tablet screen. The resolution and color are in a different league.
