I was going to use PLAID, and when I got to the window where they were asking for my Bank credentials, I stopped DEAD in my tracks. I then went off to do research on PLAID and it is not ideal because of how they are handling those credentials.
One must always chose the path that they are comfortable with using.

Having said that, I am about as anal as they come about protecting my accounts. That did not stop me from being hacked a few times anyway.

My favorite was when I was still a financial advisor. I was sitting in my office on a Saturday, making sure everything was taken care of before I flew out the next morning to a conference. The phone rang. It was Citibank asking to verify my purchase of 8, 22" rims and tires from a custom shop in New Jersey. I assured the lady that I was in Lake Oswego, OR and not New Jersey. She then asked if I had also racked up $400+ at a New Jersey Burger King! Apparently somebody took their whole "crew" out for a meal. I finally took a selfie with my phone showing me in my office before they accepted that I wasn't buying stuff in Jersey.

It took some time, but I did figure out what had happened. Two weeks earlier I had stopped at a Shell station in Roseburg, OR. They claimed they couldn't use my Shell card which should have stopped me in my tracks. They then asked for a more "mainstream" credit card. when I gave it to them, they said they had to "take it inside" as their card scanner weren't working. Second red flag. They obviously used a card scanner on my card while out of my site, then sold the info to whomever was buying stuff in New Jersey. Lesson learned. YMMV.

Yesterday I *thought* I used PLAID with ACH to transfer the funds from Wells Fargo. Everything seemed valid. 8 steps are all checked.

But today my Wells Fargo account shows the same balance as yesterday. There's not even a pending transaction withdrawing the funds from my account.

Not sure what's going on, or if they'll deny me picking up my truck on Saturday because I haven't paid. Hmmm...and here I thought I was being all clever by NOT using the wire transfer.
Could it be that Wells Fargo is just slow? They certainly are for me at times.

Sending checks is not much better honestly. I had some serious drama a few months ago when I sent in my cashier's check. The post office there kept saying location not deliverable. It finally got delivered but it took about 10 hours on hold with the post office. They really need to figure the payment piece out a little better.
You can hand the check to the person that delivers your truck.

There is no incentive or advantage to paying in advance.

Why did you try to send your payment in advance?

Do we know this to be true in states that don't allow direct sales?

Note to self. Rivian does not allow purchase via credit card at this time. Only initial reservations.

Well thats rude of them.... is it only available if you order your R1S in black? Get it, black card, oh nevermind...

?

Actually I may stand corrected. I ran into the "no credit cards" when making the full down payment after my 8 steps opened. And that may have been simply because I used Rivian Finance. Hey I wanted to do the same thing and capture $10K worth of 5% cash back - but no deal.

Who knows f they will accept the AMEX Black Card as a straight-up purchase.

Just prepare to be Black-Listed.

Too sOOn?

I'm not sure why you'd wire this verse just using ach but I guess it's quicker.

that was definitely not an option at the time here in CA. Mailing the check in was my only option at the time. Trust me, I tried.

Wire is quicker and easier as long as you get the instructions right. Mine was confirmed in less than 10 minutes. Wish the rest of Rivian was that efficient.

Yeah I guess that's my point. It's not like the car is sitting there ready to be picked up just waiting on payment. :/

Bumping this thread for THIS right here.
I ended up using wire transfer because of the huge amount of Data that Plaid takes when you agree to use it. I'm talking all transaction history, loans, credit cards, etc... Just to make a transfer? Yeah No.

It's not like Plaid has been accused and convicted of selling user data - oh wait, they have. I told my guide and expect nothing to change.
