They’re still charging a $6k premium for Adventure, even if there is no secondary option ?
Well they aren't charging a premium (anymore), they are charging what it costs plus the requisite profit margin. Why should the pricing of Adventure change if they scrap Explore??

I’m rooting for Rivian but moves like this really make me think the customer experience leadership is for show. Who would approve removing a trim option on the site before contacting at least the reservation holders first?

I don't know. To me it just doesn’t have that same premium interior feel that the original OC did.
The wood makes a big difference. That's why I got Forest Edge. But it's brown wood is not terribly unique amongst other manufactures.

That light wood on Ocean Coast, however, was the most original and unique of the 3 choices.

Hahahahaha. Oh wait, were you serious? ;)
I'm pre march 1st so it doesn't matter anyway- OC was a zero cost trim.

For the post march 1st orders they should change OC to a 1k trim like tesla, kia, etc who also offer light grey interiors for 1k. Otherwise it doesn't make too much sense.

This is a huge bummer for me. I'm not big on luxury / fancy trims and interiors. Basic, quality, durable comfortable stuff is all I want, I don't care if it's wood or what color it is. If this trend continues they may price me out of a Rivian R1 altogether.
Don't care about interior
Don't care about colors (stock Silver ext + black int is fine)
Don't care about wheels/tires (stock is fine)
Don't care about add-ons
Don't care quad vs. dual motor
Don't care about in-car audio (stock is fine)
etc., etc., etc.
Slightly prefer R1S over R1T but even that is not a big deal as both would have their advantages for my family.
Just want the base vehicle with the biggest battery possible, for the lowest price possible. Really wish I had locked in with pre-March pricing. :(

This trend also puts the nail in the coffin of sub-$80k configs for almost everyone. I would have thought they would want to keep some configs at sub-$80k, and allow people to price it up with add-ons after delivery. Like the camp-kitchen for example? Slap that thing in after delivery and it's 2/3rds covered by the tax rebate. Install it before delivery and no tax rebate.

It is mind-blowing to me that Rivian made all of these changes "stealthily" without first informing the affected reservation holders. I'm not happy about the wood change for OC. If I had Explore configured I'd be furious.

Well crap, I like that interior with the black wood. Ugh!! I like my BM interior, but I would have loved the option of different color seats/door cards.

If Rivian contacted reservations holders "stealthily" first, how long before someone posted about it on here...30 seconds? I'm fine with the communication process, I do understand Explore order holders being disappointed with the decision.

I'm good with BM wood with my OC interior choice also.

I got an e-mail about it just now. Going into the configurator shows Explore still, but now says it's discontinued.

I can understand that perspective from a human to human decency standpoint, but from a business perspective (which is what they are, a business) there is no value in doing that really. The people that care are no longer customers and the people that don't, don't. It's also in their best interests to piss off as many early Explore orders as possible to clear them out of the queue and improve their financials.

Call me old-fashioned, but you should always inform your current stakeholders of significant changes before sharing information publicly.

Good for you on being cool with the BM wood. You don't speak for everyone, however.

I could potentially see this as being an SEC requirement to announce it publicly before any subset of the population, if deemed to be material non-public information. I could make the argument that the stock should go up on this news, even if only slightly.
