That's perfect, thanks for the explanation. Autopilot also cannot change lanes and has to be re-enabled which is pretty annoying, but I 100% agree on the turning pressure making autopilot less smooth because it's SO annoying and unsafe IMO. I highly prefer my wife's MMEGT's blue cruise to autopilot because of this.
I've heard good things about Blue Cruise but haven't experienced it. It's been awhile since I've driven the Model 3 so wasn't sure about the lane changing but we've gotten pretty used to it with the X5. I will say something that I like about the Model 3 is the stoplight awareness that dings when the light turns green. Hopefully this will be added in an update at some point.

Did my first Charleston to Greenville run last night in the R1T. Pretty ideal conditions, got 2.34 mi/kwh in Conserve with cruise set at 73 for 85kwh used. Driver + for nearly the whole drive. I'll be interested to see what the difference is going back.
Same route in reverse, similar conditions, 2.53mi/kwh on the way back. Obviously it's just one run each way so I'd need a bigger sample size but it looks like the elevation gain costs about .2mi/kwh. That's about the same difference as a % as my Mazda CX-5 on the same route.

Another reference point: did the Charleston to Greenville run again tonight. Similar conditions but I tested out using All Purpose instead of Conserve. Nothing really noticeable in terms of driving experience, but it took efficiency down to 2.03mi/kwh. Looks like Conserve is worth about .3mi/kwh or 13kwh over the entire route.

That's over $5 at EA prices, so I'll probably be doing that drive in conserve from now on, especially from CHS to Greenville.

That's an interesting data point. Were you using the "lowest" ride height or "low" while in Conserve? Also, any chance you know if there were any wind differences in your two anecdotes? (not using that as a pejorative here) Headwind vs. tailwind can make at least that much of a difference.

I'm driving down to Daytona from the Charlotte area this week. I'm planning on being in conserve the whole time, but let me know if I can collect any other data that you'd be interested in.

I keep it in "low" or "standard" in Conserve (never lowest) and use the "auto" setting to allow it to adjust my height automatically.

I'm certainly aware of the impact of wind but I couldn't speak to it's impact. I may have had a slight tailwind on the drive up in Conserve but wind wasn't super noticeable on any trip. There was rain (some heavy rain) on my trip last night, but anecdotally looking at the "current usage" chart on the HUD the energy usage was +/- .1 of 2mi/kwh for the entire drive so the rain likely didn't have a huge impact on the overall drive. At the end of the day, Charleston to Greenville is a 1000 ft elevation gain over 200 miles and that's the primary driver for efficiency to me.

On another note, had my first really frustrating charge session this morning at the Greenville EA station. 1 charger (#2) payment system was offline, another charger wouldn't connect to the vehicle (#4) and the one charger that I could get to connect (#3) only gave me 35kw. I have gotten 220kw from #3 before, so this was very frustrating. I waited on hold with EA for about an hour and reported all of this to them so hopefully it will get it addressed .

Thanks for the additional info. We're in ATL area and head up to Boone and/or Asheville a couple times a year, so I don't have the same uphill from Charleston to Greenville that you have, but I'm also heading further up the hill than you are, so its similar (at least to Asheville; Boone is a solid 2k ft gain compared to here). And if I ever make a trip to the beach, I'm doing a similar 1000' change but in reverse.

It looks like EA's contact form has a specific "Report an Issue" option. Did you call and deal with that hold because you have had issues with the contact form or some other specific reason? If they don't have a specific way to report a problem charger in their app, that's a big miss on their part.

I called because I was being limited to 35kw and didn't have anything better to do and then was driving so just rode it out until someone answered. If nobody has answered before I got where I was going I would have looked online to submit a ticket.

Makes sense. I'm still ICE only, so thankfully I haven't had to deal with these things yet. Really hoping the RAN gets built out and is as fast, reliable, and easy to use as the Tesla Supercharger network so we don't have to deal with EA too often!

(These issues are exactly why I think the RAN is being built. I know the marketing makes it sound like they'll be focused on getting people to out-of-the-way places like offroad trails, etc., but I have always suspected most of the sites are really about Quality of Service more than unique locales. There will be some mix, but the predominant benefit to RAN through at least 2023-2024 will be QoS rather than remote access.)

Greenville to Charleston, same speed on All Purpose in Low suspension setting. Ended up at 2.26mi/kwh but I'll throw an asterisk there because I was getting closer to 2.35 until hitting a pretty gnarly storm around Orangeburg that I was in for about 30 miles. I think I probably would have been closer to 2.30 if not for the storm. That tracks with the efficiency difference in Conserve between uphill and downhill.

I'm definitely done with running at 70 the whole way. I think my next trip up I'll run at 75mph in All Purpose and see what the efficiency hit is to go from 70 to 75mph.

Late to this conversation, but we have the 20" A/T and frequently travel from Charleston to various parts of the state.

We went to Boone a few weeks ago. Left with a full tank from North Charleston, SC. Rivian guided us to Statesville, NC for our charge stop.

246 miles driven and we had a comfortable cushion on arrival at the charger. Drove in Conserve/low at 70-80 mph. Charged up to 90ish % there.

North of that is no-mans-land charger wise. We trickle charged at our cabin overnights for about 30-40 miles each day. We went into Boone and hit up the at the lone (SLOW 65kw) L3 charger outside Boone for about 15 minutes as well. We never had any range pressures.

Drove back through Charlotte and charged at the EA near Ikea which took us all the way back home.

Also: I saw a Limestone with black wheels parked in my neck of the woods last weekend here in Park Circle (North Charleston). Dealer plate still. Anyone on here?

Would love to meet up.

I haven't seen a Limestone in Charleston yet but I'm admittedly in Greenville more than Charleston these days. @shumdit weren't you in Charleston recently? Could have been you.

@SuperFan86 if you've seen a (dented) Forest Green driving around that's me

If you see a dented and scraped LG, that's me. We are in Charleston, and frequently can be found in Aiken or Newberry with family. Trying to get upstate more frequently, but with a 3 year old our lives are not as fun as they used to be.
