Oh man. That sucks! I didn’t have the electrical fire smell. Hopefully you are in a safe location. Are they going to be able to get a flatbed in there? I would worry about the vehicle height. Mine took about 3 weeks to get back to me after they got it in the service center. Hope it isn’t too long for you.
Tow trucks drivers can pretty much remove anything from anywhere. They have an airbag to raise it and then they put dolley rollers under the wheels and away it goes.

Do the doors mechanically unlock and open? Just had a terrifying fantasy of the truck stopping in the middle of a freeway and being locked in.

Anxiety
I believe their must be a mechanical unlock mechanism for the door available in the cabin. I could be wrong but I think that's a federal requirement. That can simply be the door handle if its interconnected, or a pull-lock, etc.

But that's why broken windows can always open car doors.

If I remember correctly, when mine was stuck in the intersection, the technicians were able to get underneath the vehicle and somehow do a manual override lock of the braking system and to be able to put it in the neutral. they also were able to override the internal locking system on the center console as well as the gear tunnel, but it took a little bit for them to do that.

I’m blown away there’s no obvious manual way to stick the truck in neutral and release the brakes. How is that safe.

They are coming this morning to take the truck away. It's a bummer - love the R1T and I realize its early in production, but man I am having so many issues with it. Steering column, rattle in the back (there was an airvent that was put in improperly), tire cover in the flatbed wouldnt shut unless you stand on it, music (spotify) takes like 5 min. to que up, small dent in door frame at delivery and now this critical battery issue. Seems like their quality control at the factory is lacking as many of these issues should have been caught...

oh yes i remember meeting you (am the bearded guy with Tesla M3) in Kennesaw parking lot where you were charging your loaner. Let it be known, you are a cool dude who hadn't completely lost if after such frustrating experience. A lesser person like me would be throwing tantrums for days after losing his toy soon after getting it. You were kind enough to still have a chat with me and talk about your truck (er. loaner). Anywho, i am getting mine delivered within a few days here (fingers crossed) and am hoping for a better experience. Will print a checklist and hand it to my kids as well to do the inspection with me thoroughly even if that would not save me from such critical battery errors. Thanks for the tip.

Especially if no alarm of any kind is present ?

Sucks that you are having this many issues but question for the group.

Upon delivery shouldn't we take it for a test drive and look over the vehicle before the delivery folks drive off?

Awesome, I remember you! Too cool. I am happy for you. If you have any questions, please dont hesitate to ask. Good luck. Mine has been pretty solid, minus a few Bluetooth frustrations and having to re-calibrate my Tonneau a few times. Otherwise, it has been fun to own and drive.

Sorry you had that happen right after delivery. Know your pain as back in 2012 I had about 100 miles on my Camaro SS (actually on mother's day going back to pick up my old car at the dealership) and blew a rod. Chevy of course game me no loaner, but did pay for 2 months of my loan. Had it back in about 3 weeks.

disagree on the early adopter tax.... fit finish issues are early adopter taxes. Basic steering and battery are not
Well - received a call from Rivian. The service rep was super nice, but her news was not good. My Rivian has a complete drive train malfunction which led to a complete battery failure. Both the drive train and battery need to be replaced (which is on top of a the steering column issue).... Has anyone had either of these issues???

Cascading electrical failures aren't that uncommon but I haven't heard of anyone needing both things replaced before on a Rivian. Congrats on winning the early adopter lottery.

Well, after picking up my R1T in the Atlanta service center, we started our drive back to Nashville...until we got to about 5 miles away and that is when I was in the middle of an intersection turning and a "Critical Battery Issue" alert went off on the steering wheel screen. The vehicle immediately came to a stop and was subsequently stuck in park. I was unable to shift to neutral nor any other gear to move the R1T. We were stuck in the outside turn lane.

I ended up using SOS to call for police presence to control traffic. I also then had to dig through the app to find the roadside assistance, which was able to eventually connect me to the SC that I just left, then dispatch a technician (1 hour) .

The first technician was unable to get the laptop to connect via LTE, so they sent another tech with another laptop, which resulted in the same negative connectivity. I had performed about 5-6 software resets and another type of reset where I walked away from the vehicle about 50 feet away to avoid any of the keys, phone, or FOB to interfere in the reset. Nothing.

After about 30 more minutes, the two techs were able to hard unlock the brake system and push the R1T backward to the nearest gas-station to prepare for a tow trailer. The SC did seem to take it seriously, as my wife was able to get an uber back to the SC to relay the issue. She was able to take an Uber back to me, and the SC manager shortly followed in his own R1T. We attempted to cross load as much of my personal gear, car seat, and effects over to the manager's vehicle, but none of the gear tunnel nor tonneau, or tailgate would unlock, thus some of my stuff was stuck till they could bypass it. And I had one of my pistols in the center console, which locks with the vehicle, so I had to wait until that was unlocked as well.

While this was all going on, the SC was working on getting a tow and a rental vehicle for us. After about another hour, while back at the SC, they decided to let us use the manager's R1T as a loaner, and stated they would begin fixing the R1T on Monday and once complete, deliver it to me in Nashville. I am still waiting to hear what is actually wrong, but the critical battery error seemed to redline the whole truck.

I feel that the technicians and managers were doing their best and were respectful/picking up on our obvious disappointment. Moreover, I was a bit frustrated that I paid for a hotel the night prior to picking it up (5 hour drive) and invested well over 12 hours in breaking down, getting techs dispatched, getting a ride back to the SC, getting a loaner, and then driving a half fueled R1T back to TN.

Has anyone else had a critical battery issue? I also found it odd that I had almost 100 miles on my R1T prior to picking it up, as that seems high for a supposedly new car. Did they already have issues with it and had been driving it around in their pre-inspection?

Good thing I didn't waste more time doing a live review!

Man that sucks. The same exact thing happened to me. They ended up performing a completely battery replacement.
