I've had my truck for less than 2 1/2 weeks and the worst fear of any owner happened. My truck rear window was broken into, a bunch of my stuff was stolen in my garage and GEAR GUARD DID NOT RECORD AT ALL!! NO ALARM, NO NOTIFICATIONS...NOTHING!

I have Gear Guard set to record everywhere and it didn't work when I needed it the most. Since that day of the break-in, it hasn't recorded anything at all actually. The gear guard was one of the features I was excited for and to see it not work is beyond disappointing.

In your garage? Did you have the setting on to always record or was it only when away?

Wow that sucks. I had a vehicle broken into in my driveway, years ago. I know how violated you must feel. I assume your garage door wasn’t closed?

Gear Guard definitely meeds improvement. I get a lot of recordings of people walking away but missing all the parts where they walked toward and were looking in my truck. I can only imagine how many videos never get recorded, at all.

I wonder what the power draw would be for a more 24hr recording model, like home security cameras. Basically, record always, and use the object/person detection to flag spots on the timeline it thinks it saw things…. But let me scrub the timeline to view any point.

That sucks! Especially in your own garage! Gear guard should have worked but you might need to secure your garage with alarms, cameras or both. I’m so sorry this happened to you.

This seems odd to me, I know that the alarm and gear guard are far from perfect, but to completely miss something like this seems a lot. I don't want to insult OP, but call me skeptical. Truely hope I'm wrong, and people aren't stirring the pot for goodwill replacements.

That said, was the garage secured? I think the real news here is someone broke into your house. The Rivian is salt on the wound sure.

I have had numerous instances where gear guard stops recording altogether and requires a system reboot to start recording again.
Same for me

This is not the first time the alarm has failed to sound for an intrusion. Others, fortunately, had video recorded, but the alarm being non-functional is a near indisputable fact at this point.

Man this sucks but at this point I'd be more worried about someone just walking into your garage thinking they own the place...They knew you were home since a vehicle was in the garage...

What are they going to do next, walk into your house and rob you in broad daylight?

Windows are replaceable...take care of your safety man...

@Dark-Fx Yes I've had Gear Guard set to "Everywhere" since day 1. It's recorded a bunch of times, but not when it was apparently important to do so.

@CommodoreAmiga It was plugged in overnight for charging. I closed my garage, but talking to some random neighbors they said they saw it open overnight. It's a detached garage at an apt complex. I'm thinking somehow someway either my partner or myself touched the garage opener without realizing it while we were in our apt on an upper level. Our garage openers are super sensitive and the apt complex management acknowledges that issue.

@COdogman I'm moving to another place and that is going to be the first thing I do once we're settled in.

@AdamsFan1983 Nothing wrong with being skeptical. This is far from being staged or whatever you may be thinking. And call me naive, but not sure what you mean by goodwill replacements. Just like everyone else here I'm proud to be an R1T owner and advocate Rivian to all my friends and family. I get that features are far from perfect it just bums me out that it couldn't work during a time it was intended for.

@flightlevel Thanks for the guidance. Rivian is picking up my truck to replace the window and do some trim and paint corrections this week. I'll keep that in my pocket when I get it back and Gear Guard stops working again.

I've had to do the "soft" reset on my infotainment several times because GearGuard just stops recording. Sucks that it may have happened to you too during a time when you needed it. Hopefully they'll fix this in future updates.

To be clear, I'm not saying that you're doing this. Totally willing to give you benefit of the doubt. But I wouldn't put it past people to accidentally break a window in their garage, which isn't covered under warranty and claim that since gear guard didn't "catch the thief that did it," Rivian should eat it and repair as a goodwill gesture.

Just my speculation.

The gear guard alarm may work off the proximity sensors. Parking in a tight garage would have all those sensors already tripped. The alarm algorithm may ignore the sensors that are tripped when entering "off" mode.

I guess it just depends on how sensitive they have the proximity detection.
