Just noticed the diagram on my new keycard. Seems to indicate that touching it to the inside of the door panel does … something. Looks a lot like a power button icon. Hmm.

That's where you'd tap to start vehicle if prompted

If you only have the keycard, that’s the location you need to put it to “turn the key”
It will present you with the need to do so on the driver screen as well
Happened to me once when it failed to read the phone for some reason wouldn’t go into gear until I “started” it with my keycard

You have to tap the card on the door handle to unlock and again on the inside of the door to 'start' the truck. Purely a logical switch.

Because sometimes I just want to hop into my truck or pop in the door really quick without the entire truck coming to life. The fans ramp up for battery and A/C preconditioning needlessly. Even worse, my music or podcast starts playing.

A power button solves this in the same way capacitive sensors on the door handles solves the proximity key issues. It’s a simple but effective affirmation of my intent rather than having the truck infer, often incorrectly, my intent.

To be clear, I’m not saying the truck needs a dedicated power button necessarily. I think you could repurpose an existing button or pedal or even add a virtual button on the touch screen.

I also understand some people like the current behavior, so this could be an optional setting. By default it works as it does today, but an optional on/off sequence would be really nice. Camp mode isn’t exactly what I’m looking for here. It needs to be more accessible than that.

Seems simple enough to add a setting where it’s either the current behaviour or pressing the brake pedal starts things Up

You only have to tap on the inside of the door if you don’t climb in and press the brake pedal within 60 seconds of unlocking the truck with the keycard.

I actually really like that answer. I bet they could even do it based off driver seat occupancy sensor. And I'm sure it could be made to be toggle-able.

Agree with this, I don't have my R1S yet obviously but this will annoy me. We go back to the garage to get something from the car at least 2-4 times a day (life with 2 young kids, lol).

Then you will be annoyed until they provide options in the settings. Just merely unlocking the vehicle brings everything to life. AC/Cooling/Radio playing/headlights/etc. - It's definitely something I despise. Just getting something out of the truck and the headlights come on, shining in the neighbors windows, even if you had headlights turned off prior. It doesn't remember. Headlights coming on either way.

You should just take it for a quick spin around the block. You know you want to.

I think the brake pedal is the right call. IMO it would make sense to keep media paused and not take over bluetooth connections etc. until you hit the brake pedal.

Not so worried about climate (generally I want it started ASAP) but I can see why others would disagree.
