@metalic5 …dang. Is your tailgate also deformed/bent/getting replaced?
no damage to tailgate, the corner tail light got a scratch so they are replacing it, Rivian wants $499 for the corner tail light, and $1,875 for the side panel, most of the cost is really labor.

Yes that is going to be bad news for insurance rates.

As someone said earlier, the rates for my Tesla went up every 6 months for the first 3 years where by the end of the third year the rate was close to double it was on the first 6 months, then it started dropping. After 6 years I am just barely under what the first 6 month policy was.

Really sorry to hear that. I do have some questions if you don’t mind. Sorry if it’s already covered.

How did they manage to hit you in your driveway?

did Rivian deem your truck safe to drive? If so how did they determine that?

The repair invoice was hysterical. The body shop invoiced the insurance company for every screw, washer, clip, fastener, etc. They told me that’s the norm.
Why wouldn’t they invoice for all the parts needed?

$18-19k for labor? How many MONTHS do they think it will take them for that kind of bill?

My advise is to shop around. I had a similar incident leading to a dent on that same panel. The two nearest Rivian approved body shops were 4 hours away from me. The first one quoted me $7K which was crazy! The second one fixed it for $3K.

Also, once you find someone to work on it, take plenty of pictures of the entire car. The shop fixed my dent but the put on a couple of scratches on the car which I know they weren't there when I dropped it off but they claimed they were. They had pictures and I had none so I couldn't argue.

So it wasn’t designed for easy repair
This is the kind of thing that I would expect Munro and Associates to comment on. Perhaps they noted in one of their teardown videos how a large single, largely aluminum (?) panel might affect repair?

It seems a bit high but plausible. About 10 years ago we had a severe hail storm that damaged half the sheet metal on my Avalanche. It was almost new, so they had to repair it - to the tune of $28k-29k parts and labor. The left rear side panel, left front fender, left doors, the roof and the hood were all reskinned or replaced. This Rivian repair is less work and parts, but cost have gone up in 10 years....

I feel your pain after waiting over three years for my truck and after only owning it for four weeks I was side swiped. It was not drivable as my tie rod broke. I needed a new door panel, rim/tire, paint, suspension parts repairs totaling over $22,000. Also it took Rivian over three months to send the parts to the Rivian certified collision center.

They don't really seem to care. They've been praising the Tesla giga-casting (to an embarrassing degree) and have dismissed concerns about repairability. Their opinion seems to be "that's the owners problem so sucks to be them, but look how much cheaper/faster this is for the manufacturer!"
