Thanks, guys. I was remembering the price announcement when I ordered in Nov. 2018 -- before there were separate configurations (and the R1S was to start at 65K). It looks like when the configurator went live two years later, that had gone up $5000. Thanks for clearing that up.

I was frustrated that I couldn't trace the price history in my emails from Rivian (no prices in the emails), or on the configurator on the site (which only shows current pricing). It took the Wayback articles to figure it out.

So fine, fair enough. Now where is it? And if I add an underbelly shield (or scratch somebody's underbelly), can I get it in 2022?

Yes, the S has always been pricier than the T. It’s gotta be the silver strip.

I would hope you and other early explore pre-order holders will be up for R1 shop when they release that for R1S. Might get you into an LE but I'm not sure I expect them to start up the shop for R1S this year ?‍♂.

That would be an awfully nice 4-year-anniversary/Thanksgiving present. If I beat Dec. 31, I can get the credit! (After Dec. 31, I'm SOL.)
Did you sign the "binding contract."

If so, why would the date matter? The binding contract was implemented by Rivian to protect your access to the old tax rebate.

Taking delivery before 12/31/2022 guarantees you get the old tax rebate.

Taking delivery after 12/31/2022 is up in the air at the moment because the IRS has until December to further opine on the "extension" of the old tax rebate and can potentially close the loophole.

The IRS cannot close the loophole. It's not even a loophole. It's included in the bill as written and approved by Congress and signed by the president.

Only a new law could remove it.

The only part somewhat up in the air is whether or not the Rivian contract will meet the criteria yet to be decided by the IRS to count as a legally binding contract.

The IRS doesn't have to authority to just throw out parts of the bill.

Am I reading your signature right that you don't even have a 1H 2023 delivery window? Damn...they are really leaving you in the dark.
Correct.

The law doesn't provide any guidance - they punt that to the Treasury department.

Future Guidance
To reduce carbon emissions and invest in the energy security of the United States, the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 significantly changes the eligibility rules for tax credits available for clean vehicles beginning in 2023. The Internal Revenue Service and the Department of the Treasury will post information and request comments from the public on various existing and new tax credit incentives in the coming weeks and months. Please look for updates on IRS.gov and other announcements from the Administration

I can almost guarantee they will further opine on those Vehicles Purchased and Delivered between 12/31/2022 and X date...look at the headings of the website right now:
Transition Rule for Vehicles Purchased before 8/16
Vehicles Purchased and Delivered between 8/16 and 12/31/22

The binding agreement being valid is one unknown.
The second unknown is the above.

Look I'm hoping to get the tax rebate as well in 2023 but lets not be naive.

I just got off the phone with my guide. VIN should be assigned today (most likely according to him) or tomorrow. Then it's just payment, insurance, and delivery. He expects I should have my R1S soooon. He's just waiting to figure out when the next truck to Denver is leaving.

Man I am a sept 2019 order, LE, GW, BM 20's, in SLC 30 mins from service center, no under body shield and thinking I may change my location to Colorado with how many vehicles are being delivered there! haha

@Blakeney - I _totally_ get your feeling. Until a couple of days ago I was right there with you. The only thing I can think of is your lack of the underbody shield. All of them being produced right now have it.

I wonder if my wife will go for "how would you like to pay 2k to get your R1s sooner?" ;0) also I wonder if adding an underbody shield NOW will make a difference... There are terrible with not knowing literally anything regarding how changes effect delivery etc.. wish they would let us know their process, if there is one

Perhaps but I'm August 2019 in Dallas with underbody shield and have also heard nothing. But my estimated delivery window is Oct-Dec so I don't have expectations of hearing anything for a while yet.

I brought this up with my guide when he asked me how my experience has been. I told him that the opaque nature of information was the biggest issue.
